Flow Master Exhaust

Just got my Flow Master Exhaust for the 08 v8-v10 engines. It uses the same size pipe as the origional tail pipe. I will let you guys know if it helps performance and mpg. First impression is that all I really bought was a 70 series muffler and the same tail pipe. Got it at Summit racing for around $360

I remember reading in one of the truck mags where they tested all manner of exhaust and intakes on a 2007 V-10 and found little or no improvement in power or mileage. Only a programmer made any significant power difference and little mileage. The 5.4 had the biggest increases with all of the above but the 6.8 was beefed up at the factory to the point that not much after market mods can help. For me, it doesn't need much if you have the 4.10 or 4.33 rear as it runs real good. I did get some SOP effect from the Diablo Sport Predator and the K&N dropin filter. I run the Predator on the middle setting @ the 91 octane rating. I get around 10 mpg towing heavy and almost 12 mpg driving a highway/town mix.

When I was researching exhaust for my truck I ended up just going with the muffler because the aftermarket cat-back systems used the same 3" mandrel bent pipe as my stock exhaust. I went with the 50 series to get a little more sound but in hindsight I wish I would have went with the 70 series.

OK with 2 tanks of fuel and driving the same routes, my mpg has gone from 13.8 to 14.3. I also have the K&N drop in filter. My mpg went from 13.5 to 13.8 with it. If I was to do it over I might just have a 70 seris muffler installed if I did anything at all. What is you guys take on the programmer. The sound does not sound like I thought it would, but in the engines defense, I drove it after I cut the old muffler off and it was not very loud then other than backfiring.
