I have worked on numerous pipeline projects throughout the US and while most of the welding rigs are on diesel pickups as the welding rigs are also diesel, there are gas pickups with welding on them too. On one job 2 years ago, the welding foreman had a new Dodge V-10 with all of his welding stuff on it. I have seen all 3 pickup companies represented with gas engines and welding rigs, so I doubt that there are any rules about that one way or the other.
