Well I did it, I bit the bullet and replaced my 2000 7.3 F250 6spd with a 2010 V10 F350 King Ranch 4X4 SRW long bed with 4.10 gears last weekend.
This will be the first time since 1984 I have not owned a Ford diesel but I just could not justify the extra $7000 expense for the diesel engine. My 5'er only weighs 8000# loaded and the boat is about 5000# with trailer so I don't really need the extra torque the diesel provides. So far I only have 150 miles on it and the computer tells me I am getting 12 MPG in mixed highway and in town driving. I got about 17 MPG with the 7.3 in mixed driving but diesel fuel is running about 20 cents higher per gallon at the least around here and I've heard the new diesel engines are not getting near the MPG the old ones are.
I didn't realize how noisy the old truck was until I drove this one, what a difference. Now I need to figure out how to change my signature line..
Congrats MunciePSD, soon to be MuncieV-10 LOL
Seriously though, best of luck with the new rig!
I'm not too far behind ya, just waiting on Ford to come back with a real offer on my lemon Law suit so that I can build a new F350 with the V-10.
They (Ford) offered me 5K first go round to settle out of court.....really?
My attorney's on the phone with them as we speak!
Anyway, will be interested to hear how you like your new truck, please write again with some initial thoughts, especially towing wise?
Cheers from the Colorado Rockies!

At 462 or so ft/lbs, and a pretty flat torque curve, and a little more rear-end gearing, you're not going to see much a difference between the 3-valve V10 and the 7.3 if it was stock.
The truck itself is heavier, but that might make towing even more enjoyable.

I can tell you that there is HUGE difference between the newer V-10's and the older 7.3's. Not even close. In fact, for all of the stock diesels regardless of maker, the V-10 will kick butt and stay even with the 6.4 except for the extreme situations. The more you drive your new V-10 and the TorqueShift tranny, you'll wonder why you waited so long.

The gas is quicker when unloaded, but other than that the diesel will smoke it quickly after the turbo spools up. Been there, done that. However, it really doesn't matter and most of us don't care. What does matter is that the truck suits it's purpose well. I personally think you made a wise choice. If you don't need the power and are not frequently towing at a high elevation, you're wasting your money with a diesel. You got yourself a very capable, really nice truck. Enjoy and be safe!

Yo Brad777-
I am working in the Bountiful, Utah area and sometimes travel up Parley's, if you see a Pueblo Gold V-10 go streeking past you, it's Pappy.

Thanks for all the replies. I haven't towed anything with it yet but I did take it on a 350 mile trip over Thanksgiving; it rides much better than the old F250 and of course is much quieter. I tried to baby it to get good mileage, I drove about 60 to 62 mph most of the way and about 70mph on the interstate and ended up with about 12 mpg round trip. Most of the trip was 2 lane highway with several stops in small towns along the way. I filled it up before the trip at $2.33 per gallon and filled it again when I got home at $2.29 per gallon; diesel is $2.79 per gallon so I'm feeling better all the time about not making the extra $7000 investment for a diesel engine.
I had a bedliner installed Friday and my rubber floor mats and mud flaps have arrived at the Ford dealer so I will be installing those shortly. I would like to install the Diablo system and air intake like Pappy19 but I will probably wait until spring to do any modifications.
I am still getting used to the Synch system and have not got all the commands down yet; that gives me something to play with for awhile.
Sounds pretty good Muncie V-10~
I must say that I'm a little jealous....
My 6.4 still sits in the shop (22 days now) where now Ford is requiring fuel samples to verify that my diesel was ok and not a factor in my high pressure fuel pump going and then ruining the injectors as well. They are pretty much accusing me of putting gas in the fuel tank! If the sample comes back negative, guess who they are going to try and stick with $8K in what should be warranty repairs....uuuggghhh.
Anyway, best of luck with the V-10.
I'm trying to get my 6.4 traded, but to add insult to injury my dealership is only offering me $30K for an 08' with 21,000 miles on it.
So, here I sit between a rock and a hard place!
Have fun with the new rig, glad that you are liking it. I test drove one last week and was pretty impressed - now just hoping I'll be able to be out of the diesel and into the V-10!
FYI: the 6.4 diesel option is more like $7,900 so you can buy yourself a bunch more gasoline than you thought!
Keep us posted on what you think!
Cheers from the Colorado High Country~

MunciePSD you made a right move, just traded my 2007 6.0 in for your same truck, the King Ranch is the best. Did you get the NAV system, I can't believe how many things that radio can do.
If your going to get a bed liner I would recommend a RHINO, see my attached pic. Way better than standard bed liner IMO.
Thank You

I am in the same boat. I have been buying diesels since the 80's and because of the stupidity of the Gov't I am not going to continue. I am looking hard at the V10 or the Boss 6.2 in the 2011. The new diesels are not reliable and are way too expensive to fix when the warranty is gone. I have an '05 6.0L and that thing is becoming a nightmare 135000 miles and since it turned 106000 it has blown the head gaskets, 4x4 quit, starting issues, injector problems etc. So it is going down the road shortly I just can't decide on the V10 or take the chance on the 400 hp 6.2. I like the new interior on the 2011 but the 2010 is nice too. ARRRGH
zanegrey,
Hopefully you will get a settlement with Ford soon on your 6.4; one of the reasons I decided on the V10 was all the stories on this board and others about the 6.0 and 6.4 Ford diesels as well as problems with the GM and Dodge diesel engines after the EPA got involved with them.
Eyesell,
I did not get the NAV system with this truck; I really don't need that feature although it would be neat to play with. Another missing feature is the tailgate step; this SRW F350 4X4 is jacked up quite a bit higher than my 4X2 F250 and that feature would be nice to have. I'm going to check with the dealer to see if that can be added to an existing tailgate.
durantdiesel,
I too thought about waiting for the 2011 but I decided to go ahead with the V10 since it has a history of good performance with little problems. I'm sure the new 6.2 will be a good engine but its torque numbers are not quite as good as the V10.
