I went and did it

I traded my 2005 today for an 2008 V10 F350 XLT CC LWB SRW 4.10 4x4. I know I'm giving up a little bit of GCWR and a scant amount of GVWR. We have an LQ horse trailer that probably weighs 15K to 16K depending on how much crap we have with us. But we've only used the trailer a couple of times in the past year and for only short local trips. I bought a small stock trailer for trail riding and such. So the big LQ sits alot. I'll be over loaded when I am towing the LQ, but that won't be often or far so I'm not really too worried about it. For the most part, the new truck will do everything I need it to do and then some.

The new truck is black and will have chrome step bars, chrome handles, a B&W Turnover GN ball, barbed-wire pin stripe, rust proofing/paint sealant/upholstry guard and a bed liner. It has the power folding mirrors, integrated brake controller, tail gate step, and some other stuff that I've already forgot about. I pick the truck up on Wednesday after the goodies are added.

I hope I won't regret doing this. I know one thing I already like is my monthly payment is significantly lower now.

Sounds like a nice truck. My old 97 V10 got 12 unloaded, but I understand the newer engines should do better. Hope you enjoy your new ride!!\\OMC

I have considered the same thing. with power levels of gas being where diesels were 8 years ago, gas $1 a gallon cheaper, fuel economy no better, and the diesel being $7k more; for most people I would think it to be a no-brainer.

Congratulations on the new truck and welcome to the world of the V-10 "Ford's Best Kept Secret"
This is one engine that will do what is asked of it, and asks for very little in return. You may notice at first it seems to hold back, but after getting a thousand or so miles on the motor it will awake and become an all new experience. Trust me you will know when it happens.

IMHO the V-10 Super Duty is the best truck on the road today, bar none. Hauls ass and asses with no problem. I have had my 2008 for over a year with 26k and it runs like a champ. I have only filled it with gas and changed the oil @ $19.95 each time. Try that with your new 6.4 sootbag.

Try $40 for 15W40 oil + oil filter. And 15+ MPG. :-) Sootbag huh?

Even if the diesel gets 15 MPG and the V10 only gets 11 or 12, at today's fuel prices, it's still a win-win for me. In fact when I was contemplating this deal, using current fuel prices (can't count on the future prices, though) and conservative estimates of MPG for both engines, my cost per mile for fuel was actually a bit less with the gasser.

The only time I'm really going to miss the diesel is when I'm pulling the LQ trailer. I might even cuss a little. But that will only be an occassional event, as the LQ sits too much. I'm actually trying to sell it, but not too many people are in the market for a $50K horse trailer.

Seems a little harsh. Each to his own but if one can afford the higher running costs of the 6.4L then it too is a fine engine.
