If I told you something bad about a new V-10, I'd be lyin'. No kidding, the Ford V-10 is the best thing Ford is making these days. Not the mileage you were getting on your 6 leaker(when it was running right) and not quite the mileage on my old 7.3, but within 1 mpg of the new diesels and none of the normal diesel problems. I would not go back to a diesel after driving my 2008 Job 2 V-10 for nothing. It is the best running low cost truck I've owned and the new ergo's are super. I have a 4.10 rear in mine and I think it is the perfect rear for occasional towing and a daily driver. Try one, you'll like it.

The bad on the V10: fuel mileage (offset by lower fuel cost) The good: everything else!

After owning a 7.3 and a 6.8, I would say the 6.8 is one of the most reliable engines built today, to answer your good and bad? the v10 has no issues to speak of period. I was considering buying a used 6.0 the other day but....no way in hell.

The worst problem is that they are rarely for sale, (at least in the configuration you need) If you are ordering new, no problem. If you are looking for a used truck, it could be a several month search. Lots of diesel owners switching.

Your right , no used 6.8 in what I need, I ready to pull the trigger on a new one Jan 6. I won't just settle for a lot vehicle.
Same set up as I had but no 4x4 this time, it will take 6 weeks to get a new one

Bought new truck yesterday

Got 09 F-250 CC short bed XLT 5.4 , 3:73. Had four V-10's in the past. A little leary about the 5.4. It's the first one I've ever driven. It'll be just fine for me. Only thing I have to pull these days is a 12 foot dump trailer. Got a real good price for my 08 F-250 and $6,500.00 off on the 09.
Best, Buck

I had a 99 250sd with the 5.4 and It worked like a horse, 4 years of plowing , pulling trailers, load to the top and it never skipped a beat. You should be happy with the truck if all you pull is a 12ft dumper.

It's a 2009 F550 Super cab Lariat, V10/auto 4x4, 84" cab to axle with the payload upgrade to 19,000. Sticker was $49,700, got it for $39,900 add the Towing equipment ($45,000) and it's roughly $85,000 plus TTL. I'm getting $34,000 for my 05 F450 xlt SC 6.0 2wd trade.

It was $9,800 off, and it was a special ordered 09. I ordered through my upfitter though, not from a dealer.
