V-10 Mag-Hytec rear end cover??? - Diesel Forum

So I noticed that my stock rear end dif cover is peeling paint and is rusting. I don't know why it is peeling, like it got too hot or something. I notice that the 6.4 diesel rears have a finned cover. I am ordering a Mag-Hytec cover and want to know which one I need to order. Is it the 10.25" dif cover or what? Thanks for any info.

Pappy, the best of my knowledge, it is a sterling 10.25" rear. I have the MagHytec cover on my Dana80, and really like the ease of maintenance, and the provision for a diff temp guage. The diff temp guage will surprise you at the readings. One thing about the fill level on the dipstick, I only fill the rear to the bottom mark, or just a hair over. The top mark level seems to overfil the diff. Mine filled to that level will usually create a leak at the left axle seal.The downside to the MagHytec cover is, guys will admire your rear.

HaHa, except with my drop-bumper, it's not as esy to see as the one I had on my 2002 F-350 7.3. I should get it installed by the weekend and I'll shoot some pictures. The Mag-Hytec is a dandy mod and it does work to lower temps.

Actually, it's a 10.5", but the cover should be the same.

For the record, the stock diesel finned cover from 2008 and up is VERY cheap compared to the aftermarket ones.

I check on them and they are cheaper but the Mag-Hytec cover is much beefier and holds twice as much lube as a stock covered dif.

My Mag-Hytec arrived today and installed it this afternoon. Took about an hour. Looks great. I will take pictures Friday when I put it back on the rack to check the oil level. The directions say to check it after 25 miles. You need one of these.

I think it was around $275 plus the extra lube was a little over $300.
