His 350 is a dually. I doubt there's 3,000lbs difference. Would have thought weights empty would be more like 8,000lbs for DRW 350 and 9,500lbs F450 but I'm asssuming you've had your 450 on the scales so know more than me in this regard.(unless it's a chassis cab conv wrecker when it would weigh substantially more)
Yes, if his truck is a dually, it would weigh about 300# more, and yes, my truck is a chassis cab, not a pickup. I don't know why everyone assumes a F450 is a pickup, (which they never made in 05, and came out in 08) As I specified before and in my signature, it is a tow truck. The stainless steel bed and accessories weigh 3,400# alone, and the whole truck weighs 11,400 on a certified Cat scale.

I had sigs disabled so just assumed you had an 08. However, had more than inkling your truck was a chassis cab w/wrecker conv.
The modern diesel has been greatly humbled and faulted in recent years. I am from the old 7.3 days of rock solid 300-500K mile engines. I had to buy new in 05 and prayed the 6L was improved by then. I read the forums and made the recommended aftermarket changes. It has been good so far after EGR and head gaskets under warranty.
It seems like nothing is holding resale value now in this economy. New 08 f250's are $15-20K off in most markets. I chose the diesel for towing performance in high altitudes. No matter how mighty the gas engine is if the air is thin it makes less power. A turbo helps offset this power loss due to altitude. I am always hauling loads over the rockies and out to Phoenix, AZ up to 13K ft. I also hoped a diesel would have better resale value past 100K. As for the extra cost of diesel I got 13K off sticker so it was a good enough deal to me. I average 16mpg mixed use and average 12-13 towing my 24ft enclosed with 10K inside. All of my V10 buds get single digits towing. I can almost double their mileage towing heavy. It used to be you couldn't give away used V10's. Dealers wouldn't take them on trade, and only order them per customer. When I was shopping for a truck all the 100K mile CC 4wd diesels were still getting 20K... Last month there was a 34K miles 05 Harley F250 on eBay for only 18K... Times are tough and I am considering going back to gas next time around. I am at 94K and am a little worried, lol. BTW I change my own oil with Rotella and it is 56 bucks with filter. I use Blackstone for oil testing and can easily get 10K on changes.

I have a 6oh(in sig)...I love it...BUT my next truck is gonna be a 6.8 v10...Ive driven one has loads of power...you save 7k when you buy a v10 you could buy alot of gas for that price and I just changed my oil on my 6.0 $80...that just sucks and every time I turn the key in my 6oh im taking a risk...head gasket, egr cooler, oil cooler, and you got to pull the cab off the darn truck just to access everything...Im not a diesel hater (i love them) but the cost especially the up front cost...I firmly believe now that the 6.8 V10 is Fords best kept secret...

Reliable diesels have gone to the wayside with higher torque/hp demands and emisisons requirements. Yes, in theory the blocks should have increased longevity over the gas engines, but with the price of components such as turbos, injectors, egr's and such, it becomes a moot point. A well taken care of gas engine can last as long as a diesel and in reality, no one keeps a vehicle 20 years, especially a business owner with a fleet of light trucks. As a prior un-modified 6.0L that had no issues or warnings until a hydrolock at 134K miles.......6K in top end alone....I would never recommend owning a diesel out of warranty again....unless I needed a business write off.
If a person has to think twice about installing additional electrical loads on a these trucks, then the manufacturer needs to ask for more than XX billion dollars for a bailout and include the restrucure of their engineering departments.
Keep in mind there are many other 6.0L folks that have issues with their trucks that do not post anywhere either....I work with a one.
