V10 still alive in 2011.....sort of

I was on the Ford site looking at the future '11 Superduty (I was bored) Anyway, looks like the 5.4 V8 is being replaced with the 6.2 V8 and the 6.8 V10 will only be available in the 450 and 550's. I hope that 6.2 has some grunt. I'm glad I ordered a 2010 V10 when I did!

Yep same here. My dealer was able to locate a 2009 V10 Lariat this summer to replace my 2004 PSD. It was too late to order a 2009 and at that time it would have taken longer than 6 weeks for a 2010 order to be delivered.

Glad to hear the V10 will still be available on some 2011 trucks so parts will be available longer.

Dick

I hurt the feelings on a new Chevy diesel owner today. I was headed up Parley's Canyon (for those that don't know, Parley's is about an 8 mile 6 lane hill on I-80 going from Salt Lake City to Park City, Utah) doing the speed limit and this Chevy diesel comes up next to me and gives me this big grin and hauls ass up the hill. I couldn't stand it, so took off too. There was a "bunch up" with slower cars and semi's so I caught him. When the path cleared we were both doing about 20 mph under the limit, and away we went. He got the jump at first but I soon caught him and really blew his doors off going past him. He never caught me. He was blowing some smoke, so not sure if he had a chip or not. His exhaust had that bell shape to it. I've done this before in Idaho on other new Chevys going up hills and they don't want to believe a gasser will eat their lunch. V-10's rock!!

I think ford did the right thing by making a larger V8 and just running the V10 in the 450/550 chassis cab. In my opinion the 5.4 is not nearly enough to move a heavy super duty around. Before I ordered my 05 350 I tried out the 5.4 and it had no power (compared to the Hemi or 6.0 Chevy). My 05 V10 with the 4:10ls was a decent pulling truck. It seemed the more mileage I put on the truck the more power it had. The question is do you need 10 cylinders to make that much power? While no numbers have come out everyone says around 400hp and 400lb ft for the 6.2 V8. Id like to see the torque somewhere closer to 425 with a wide torque range. It seems like the 5.4 needs to rev to 4000rpm to do anything.

...and then there is the Chevrolet 502... 450hp/550lb/ft torque...
