Is the v10s having same problems as 6.4
I was wondering if 2009 v10 is having the same problems 6.4 we are? after 7000 miles looking for other alternative's for reliability . Especially after reading these stories on here .I bought the diesel for reliability but I'm having second thoughts after seeing so many of these post. Thanks any info would be greatly appreciated ) 09 srw f350 ?
I and a lot other are not having any problem with the 6.4L I know ford now correctly the fuel in the oil problem but that was not a ford problem as it is a IH problem. their personal did not install their parts correctly at Indy. Same thing was going wrong with the 6.0L That why ford going with their own motor in 2010. We see how that works out. Ford is fixing the problems. it A great motor if installer would have done their job correctly.

It would be my understanding that the V-10 IS NOT experiencing the same problems as the diesel. Any issues seen with the early 2008 diesels (now seem to be resolved) couldn't be inherited by the V-10 as the V-10 has no turbos, has different injector and fuel delivery system, has different radiator, etc... than the diesel 6.4L. The V-10 3V is a tried and true gasser that is a 200,000+ mile engine according to many owners here on this board. Most of the gone issues with the 6.4L have been engine related, and the rest related to fuel consumption of the diesel are related to the DPF, which again, is not part of the V-10's emission system.

I have heard no complaints at all with the 2008-2009 V-10, none, nada. None on this forum or any other Ford forum.

Zero problems or complaints on my V10, except that it is a gas-o-holic!
What kind of economy is the V-10 3v seeing? I had a V-10 in a 98 F-250 SC short box & got 12 - period. Varied from 11.8 to 12.3 just about no matter how I drove it. I never had a chance to tow with it, but it ran great & would hold hills unloaded w/out any problems. Just curious if the newer engines are getting any better than 12?

You really can't compare my truck to yours, mine is an F550 4x4 186wb tow truck that weighs 13,000 pounds empty. I get about 5.8 mpg average mostly in town (Chicago) and I get get about 9-9.5 on the highway empty. Mine is heavier than most F550 tow trucks.
My 2008 F-250 supercab, shortbed with automatic and 4.10 rear gets 11-12 most days. Keeping the speed down will have the most effect on mileage.

I wonder now if I had a 4:10 rear in that truck. No matter what I did, it got 12. I've heard that the newer 3 valve is supposed to do about 15 w a 3.73. Don't know how accurate that is though.

Yeah, maybe it could IF you could get a 3.73 rear end with the V-10, but you can't. You'd have to do a custom gear swap. Only the 4.10 and 4.30 are available with the V-10 from Ford.

I had the 3.73 in my 2002 7.3 PSD and it was good, and I liked it. BUT, I also had the 4.10 in my 1997 7.3 PSD and it was real good also, all the way through the power band. My 2002 had a big lag ontake off and took a while to bild some poop, and then kicked ass. My 1997 had great power up to 90 and then backed off. The 2002 kept on going to 126. If we are talking about top end, the 3.73 is for you. If you are towing, then the 4.10 is the best all around IMHO.

Do you already have the diesel? If you do, are you having problems? There have been issues with the 6.4, but the good ones (the vast majority) are GREAT. If you've got a good 6.4, keep it.

Update: My mpg after 3500 miles has risen to 6.4 average mostly city, I guess it's starting to break in. I now have 4400 miles.
I'd have to say that the V-10 is more reliable at this point. There really isn't anything it's not doing well right out of the box. Many 6.4L's are doing well, but there have been issues; just read this forum. Most are associated with the "growing pains" of new products. The 6.4L will probably peak about the time they dump it for their new in-house diesel.
The V-10 soldiers on, and rightfully so. It's a fuel guzzeler; but the 6.4L isn't exactly easy on fuel either.
If I could have found a CCLB 4x4 with a V-10 and 6 spd manual in an XL, I'd have bought it in a heartbeat. But good luck trying to find such a beast on the lot.

I love my 6.4 and the 08 in general. Sure, I've had a radiator problem, but it was fixed at/by the dealer in 3 hrs.
I chose the diesel for my specific application. The primary purpose of my truck is pulling or hauling, not general transportation. Because of this, fuel mileage doesn't concern me much. However, it is much better, towing or empty than my previous gas F250. What does concern me is fighting the mountainous grades and high elevations where I like to go camping. My 6.4 has been incredible in these places...altitude doesn't affect the diesel much. The ride and power of my F350 has me smiling all the way to my destination every time.
