With diesel being 30 cents more a gallon than gas thinking of going with a gas engine on next purchase. I think it my be cheper on the wallet and I only tow around 5,000 lbs anyway.
I just did the same. Had an 05 with a 6.0. Just picked up an 08 with a v10. Only have about 250 miles on it so far and the computer is reading 8.3. But it keeps steadily going up. Hopefully it doesnt stop there. My last v10 got about 11 city and it had 3.73's. This one has 4.10's so I am sure it wont be the same. I guess I am not to worried about it. If I was I would of bought a half ton.

I have almost 11k on my 2008 V-10 and with the K&N drop-in air filter and Diablo Sport Predator in the 91 cotane mode, I am getting about 11 mpg with a 4.10 rear. I am a lead footed person, however, so don't judge my mileage as good for all V-10's. Before I added the programmer, just the K&N air filter added 1 mpg for me. I also have a large heavy front bumper that isn't very aerodynamic, I'm sure.

You guys need to remember that diesel is only higher in the winter. Gas is higher spring to fall. It has to do with seasonal formulations. My 03 F450 gets 6 in town and 10.5 on the highway. My F450 6.0 gets 10 around town, 13 MPG highwayLS

With all due respect, it's been a while since that old norm prevailed. I'll give you that last summer (for a few weeks) diesel was cheaper, but over the past few years, diesel has rarely been much cheaper that gas, if any. It may depend on where you are from. Yes, in winter it does jump dramatically because of winter blend, heating fuel costs, etc...

Diesel has been more expensive here than gas for 2 years now. I think one month last year diesel was cheaper but the norm since 05 when I got my truck diesel cost more. And I only get around 11 in town and 15 on highway. Gas is 40 cents cheaper right now and looks like the milage is about the same with the new 08 6.4 not doing anybetter MPG so I thinking I can save money on fuel and also maintence.
In Chicago it's cheaper at least half the year. It's still cheaper to run the diesel for me in the winter, but the margin narrows. In the summer I save a bunch driving the diesel. This is my experience though. Other areas might be different. LS
.. that unless you need the torque provided by the diesel, gas is the way to go. Even if the diesel provides 3 extra mpg's and fuel is the same price, at 100,000 miles comparing 14mpg to 11 mpg gives 2000 gallons saved which should equate to around $6,000. An oil change on a gasser is $25 every 5,000 miles; on a diesel it is $100 every 5,000 miles; favor gas @ $1500. Now, factor in the diesel has ran an average of $.40 higher according to the national averages over the past two years and you are down to a fuel savings of only about $3,000. That means the diesel cost $1500 less to run. Factor in the $6,500 diesel option and you will never pay for it on fuel savings alone.
Diesel trucks do hold resell better, but nothing like in the past. The trucks are now plentiful and a lot of people are looking for higher mileage with diesel @ $3.50+. Also, start working on a diesel and you will find out that it can quickly add up to a fortune.
For pulling, there is no comparison, diesel is better. However, if you are looking for net cost savings associated with a diesel, those days are long gone.

I've thinking of selling my 07 PSD for an 08 V10. Fuel where I am right now is $3.03 for 87 and $3.83 for Diesel. $0.80 is a huge difference. I'm going to wait till April to see what happens but I do work for an oil company and I do not see diesel going dropping anywhere near a $1/gallon once winter blend stops.

As far as I know you can't get 3.73s with the 2008 V10 .
Oops... you are correct. it's 4.10 or 4.30. Pro's and con's of each?
From what I have read, 4.10s will give you better highway mileage while the 4.30s will give you better city mileage. If you're towing your truck will need to work harder in stop and go traffic so the 4.30s will help that. But with the 4.30s you truck will run at a higher RPM on the highway.
I think it really depends on what you plan to do with your truck. Many guys say get the 4.30s if you're going to do any towing. For me I tow occasionally so I got the 4.10s
