Harley350, are those 4x4 and hand calculated numbers? If so, that is great. I thought the 08s weren't doing that well. I get 15-16 around town and 19 on the highway. I have a 7.3 6spd.

I am getting 9 around town and 7 towing a four place enlcosed with 4 sleds in it. That is at about 75 mph. My 6.0 would only get around 9 with the same trailer. I am not unhappy considering the price differance in the 2 fuels right now. That and I have a brand new truck for less money a month with more options.

Yes sir, hand calculated numbers 4X4. I do drive like an old lady which I'm sure helps.

I took a trip this past weekend going into the wind, AC on and my HWY MPG was 17.5 Coming back 18.9

My PSD has averaged 15.01 MPG over its life of 64,000 miles. With diesel at $4.09/gal here it comes out to $0.27/mile. With a V10 getting 11-12 MPG, gas would need to be at least a dollar cheaper per gallon before it becomes cheaper per mile. ($3.09/gal @ 12 MPG = $0.26/mile) Just my $0.02.....

Not when you factor in the $5000 - $6000 premium you paid for that diesel. Kinda changes things, doesn't it?

Since my buddy was the sales mgr. where I bought it, cost wasn't an issue. But I'm the exception, not the rule....

Ah, so your buddy gave you a truck for $5000-$6000 under invoice? You are not the exception, you just have blinders on.

It has been my experience that you recover the cost of the engine when you go to sell/trade your truck. I don't factor in the 5-6k additional cash outlay when analyzing gas vs. diesel.

Just my $.02...

I just got a new company truck and it showed 11.8MPG on the computer when it was driven from Seattle to Helena last week by the delivery company. I reset the computer when I refueled and have been driving mostly in town and it hasn't left 8.4MPG.

What rearend ratio is on your work truck? I have the 4.10 and was getting around 10mpg and then added a K&N dropin filter and bumped it up by 1 mpg. I talked to one V-10 engine owner and he said his didn't start getting good mileage until it hit 40k and he is now getting 14. I am getting a consistant 11mpg around town and about the same on the highway as I am doing 80-85 most of the time. I guess that if I kept it at 60-65, it would get around 13.

I have been getting 8-9 mpg around town and the best was 17.4 highway crusin at 60. My truck, 08 5.4 cc 4x4 short bed 3.73 gears auto stock. If you figure in the cost of the diesel option (5000.00),oil changes (15QTS), price of fuel 1.00-1.15 more a gallon than gas, diesel is not that great any more. The best I ever got was 22mpg in a 2000 7.3 6speed when fuel was cheap. My 04 6.0 psd cc auto 4x4 18 mpg highway and this was the engine of the future. If you dont need the torque to pull down houses I think gas is the way to go.

It has the 4.10 rear end in it. I put about 800 miles on it this last week and if I go 70, and reset the computer,on the highway it shows 12.5, if I go 75, and reset the computer, it shows 11.8, at 80 it is 10.9. Note: Our speed limit is 75. The average in town and highway is 11.5 right now. Not too bad. My personal truck gets a combined 18mpg but diesel is 4 bucks a gallon right now. So .80 cents a gallon more and I get 6.5 more mpg than the gas truck. A third better mileage and 25% more expensive fuel right now. Hmmmm.

I'm getting 11-12 mpg all around and nearly 14 mpg highway. Not as good as the old diesel but at least the fuel is $0.50 per gallon cheaper.

I went on a short trip Saturday and driving 65MPH (2000 RPM) I was getting 15+ MPG. When I got to my destination I did some stop and go city type driving. On my way back I was driving 70MPH. That stop and go city driving drops the MPG down like a rock. The average for the trip ended up at 13MPG. At a steady highway speed of 65MPH I believe 15.5MPG is possible, at 70MPH I believe 14 to 14.5 is realistic.
My average on truck only comes out to 10-11MPG because of short trips and less time to warm up etc. The truck has 6200 miles on it.

You might try a drop-in K&N air filter. I gained a solid 1 mpg when I added mine. Diesel fuel here in Utah is averaging $4.12 and I can get 91 octane at Costco for $3.24. That's a heck of a difference. Makes me love this V-10 even more!!
