Well spring is here in north texas and I am seeing Diesel for $3.95 - $4.00. my buddy that also has the 1-ton was bragging about driving his Isuzu around and filling it up for a mere $55, and that is when I got to remind him abpout filling up our ford's for @ $75 not that long ago. Now I am lucky if I can fill it up for under $125. I am just glad I have another vehicle I can drive around with these high prices.

I need the 1 - ton to pull the 5th wheel, buit I am thinking now, downsize the 5th wheel, to maybe a bumper pull, and get a 3/4 ton "gas" 2 wheel drive.

We ain't ever going to see those lower prices again!

I am just glad that the oil companies have made those RECORD profits. As long as I am helping out those C.E.O.'s so they can put another wing on their house, I know I am doing my part.

I've pondered if I made the right decision with the 6.4. However, I need the pulling power for my Toy Hauler/Utah Mountain combo. The V10 is a great alternative for those that want a super nice truck, but don't need as much pulling power.

A V-10 with 4.30's will pull with a 6.4 and 3.73 all day. Truck Trend did a diesel vs gasser test and they claimed that the V-10 with 4.30 rear was very close to the diesel specs except for the 18 degree hill test which you ain't never going to see in real life.

What kinda MPG are the v 10 450 - 550 trucks getting ? Cant seem to find it anywhere.

Only have a F250 ext cab with V10 and 4:30 gears, 36 miles a day b&f to work and I avg 10.5 mpg, so You can figure less than that for the bigger truck.

And a V-10 w/ 4.30 rear will get worse economy than a PSD, AND not do as well holding hills in anything over 5% grade, and altitude over 5k' - it just ain't gonna happen with a normally aspriated gas engine. They'll tow the load, but they'll be in the far right lane doing 30 in 2nd gear and the tach at 6k rpm.

The V-10 is a good engine, and a strong truck. It just isn't designed for altitude. BTW, my 99 V-10 F-250 got 12 - period in town, out on the highway, didn't matter.

My 6.0 gets 17 - 18 in the same conditions.

To say that the V-10 isn't for high altitude is a bunch of BS. I just towed from Layton, Utah, 3500', to Garden Valley, Idaho, also about 3500', towing maxed put with the truck loaded plus a fully loaded 18' inclosed trailer with all of our crap. I got 10.4 mpg towing(without a head wind for a change) and on every hill between Ogden and Boise, I never got off 70 mph. Going up Horseshoebend Hill, I did drop to 65, but only because of the curves. Even with the 4.10 rear, I have no problems towing as this 367 hp engine rocks especially with the tow/haul tranny.

I am about ready to park my F250 and get a daily roller skate. Today diesel is nearly a DOLLAR more than gas in Dallas! It is 4.53 at the truck stops and 4.79 in town... Gas is 3.79 etc..

I am about ready to park my F250 and get a daily roller skate. Today diesel is nearly a DOLLAR more than gas in Dallas! It is 4.53 at the truck stops and 4.79 in town... Gas is 3.79 etc..

I still think the diesel is a must for pulling heavy loads. I have pulled over many Colorado passes at twelve thousand plus feet. The turbo was blowing 22+psi just to maintain 30-40mph up the switch backs. Gassers suck wind up there it is a fact. Thin air is a bear without a compressor or power adder like turbo or supercharger. If I only hauled open trailers I would consider a V-10 now days.
