What type of Oil to use

I have a 2010 F250 V-10 with 900 miles so far, should I change the oil now or wait till the normal 3K. Does Ford still use break-in-oil, I plan on owning this truck for sometime and thought it may be best to change if now.

Also, what type of oil do you recommend ??

Thanks in advance !!

I don't know what "normal" is, but I'll bet your manual tells you exactly when your first oil change should be. And I'll also bet you that it doesn't say 3k miles. I'd go by what the manual says.

But hey... congratulations on your new truck! I'm sure you'll love it.

On a new engine, I always change the oil for the first time at 500-1,000 miles, just incase there is some junk. If nothing else, change out the filter. After the initial oil change, then I usually go 3,000-4,000 between changes even though Ford says we can go up to 7500. As a gasser, oil changes are cheap. Engine history says if I do an oil change every 3-4k, I'll get 250-300k out of my V-10 engine. We'll see.

Ford doesn't use a special break in oil any longer. So, you can change the oil when ever you want. I always do the first change after 300 - 500 miles. And since Ford went to the 5w-20 Synblend, I've just used that along with the motorcraft filter. One warning tho, the factory installed filter tends to be a real bear to remove. Visit your dealer and let them do that first one.

Standard Ford oil is a synthetic and it is good oil. When I get a coupon from Ford on an oil change deal, I use their oil, otherwise, I use Mobil 1 that I get at Costco. I believe it is 5-20 or 5-30. I know alot of folks swear by Delo 400 15-40 and I wouldn't have a problem using that oil either, but "they" say that the new gas engines don't like 15-40. When I had my diesels, I always used Delo 400, except for a short stint with Amsoil, but had some problems with it in my diesels. Amsoil synthetic should be ok for a gas rig. Bobtheoilguy web site is the best for answering oil questions if you still have any.

I use the Mobil 1 5w-30. They now make a 5w-20 but I read on this site years ago that the Mobil 1 5w-30 had similar viscous properties to the ford 5w-20 so I continue to use the 5w-30.

Well I got it changed Saturday and ended up using Valvoline 5w-20 Synthetic. Like a fool I got back to my house and read my warranty package I bought and I paid for oil changes up through 24,000 miles. They are to be done at any Ford dealer and first one is schedule at 5K. This is good cause I'll get another 4K on this change.

Thanks for the tips !

Regards
