Get A Dog Little longgie Get A Dog!

Well I am new to this forum. I have a background in mechanics and had worked for a custom Hot Rod shop. I currently own a 1986 F250 XL 4x4, 460-4spd with a little over 45k miles on it. I am trying to sell it and buy the 1988 F350 XL 7.3L Crew Cab with 190k miles on it. I don't know much at all about diesel so I am here to learn. Thanks, JASTECH

Welcome aboard. I had an '86 f-250 XL ext cab long bed 460/C6. Loved the truck bought it new and gave it to community hospice beginning of this yr. to make room for my sig truck. Once you get used to the "mules" under the hood instead of the "stallions" you will be happy you made the change. I had "the beast" (kid's named it that) modded to the max.

Thanks for the kindness! Sorry I didn't respond sooner as I was having health problems after being electrocuted. This is a lifetime thing that also affects my memory so it may take a few times to "remember" and I may ask more times then others so please forgive me. Thanks, JASTECH

I don't understand

JASTECH,

You want to get rid of a 460, 4X4 with 45,000 miles to buy a 7.3 with 190,000 miles???

Dude that 460 is one bad ass motor in a great truck.

Still confused.

reba, I now have a 2yr old son and need more space so the Crew Cab will work for my family. We also travel to dog shows and pull a enclosed dog trailer and my Xterra's gas mileage drops a lot when pulling. Plus I have a 20' trailer I use. So the 23 mpg on the 7.3L will be a major plus when pulling loads. I know my F250 4x4 is strong, It has pulled everything I needed and didn't even grunt. But now married and a son governs a change. I am asking 3000.00 for my F250 for a fast sell I hope.

Reba, I had a 1986 F-250 XL ext cab/LB SRW with the 460/C6. I put the following mods in myself: Edlebrock performer Intake, ARP head studs, Comp cams 260 cam, Crane "full roller" rockers, Edlebrock "accudrive" gear drive,MSD 6A ignition with blaster II coil, flex-a- lite flex fan, 4 row radiator, Headman Headers w/true dual 2 1/2" no cat. C6 tranny had HD T/C and shift kit. I will agree that it is one bad engine, but it DRINKS like a fish. 8MPG on flats w/trailer in sig sucked. I got my sig truck and it gets 12MPG on flats WITH the A/C on. These diesels can go 300K + and thats what sold me, along with the back seat for the dog and cat.
