Hello from the crossroads...

My name is Bill and I live near the confluents of the great paved rivers; Interstate 80 and Interstate 35 – that’s Des Moines for those without a globe. I had an F150 4x4 extended cab a few years ago but had to sell it to accommodate the third child and buy a mini-van. The wife gave me her car to drive instead and nothing makes the testicles shrink more than driving a Volvo station wagon. Anyway, I recently bought a 2002 F350 7.3L PSD 4x4 crew cab with a short box to tow the family camper. Now I’m on the road to recovering with the new tonner and my voice is lowering in pitch too!

I joined this site because I know nothing about diesels and will have many questions for the old timers. I love my new diesel. My F350 diesel gets better mileage than the F150 and I get to ride in style! Looking forward to all the good stuff buried in here.

Hey Bill, greetings from a cornfield two states east. The Super Duty will definately get you some respect, and some boxers will help with the cajones growth. The 02 is my favorite year of SD, sure wish they still made them, or an 08 with a 7.3, but that is just a dream. The 02, you purchased, does it have any mods? The first mod, I would recommend is guages, boost, pyro, and a real tranny temp guage. The factory tranny temp guage is useless. The 02 can be transformed into a super towing, and really fun to drive truck. A word of caution, "Powerstoke Mod Syndrom" is highly contagious! Check out the therapy article for some relief.

Boxers - check.

Mods to the truck - unknown.

Remember this is my first diesel truck so bare with me. I noticed that the previous owner installed an Airaid intake system but other than that I’m not sure. There are two LCD video monitors that my kids really like. I had my mechanic go though it and change all the fluids and I bought new tires. The tires are boring because they are close to stock. I read that big fatties are not good for towing - something about floating on the sidewalls…

The truck has >165K miles so I am a little leery of high performance mods. I was considering a programmable chip system. A tranny temp gauge would also be good. Is that a DIY project?
