new guy in ny

new guy in Ny, looking to buy a powerstroke,

over this past summer i have towed over 8k miles. 3.5k in a 07 esclade and the other 4.5k in a 04 ram 1500 lets just say the ram towed the best but still not what i'm looking for.

i like the fords have a mustang currently but a few things about a ford make me nervous. I don't like the dodges and the chevys are a pos imo. so i signed up so i can learn.

Jonathan

How much weight are you towing and how far on average do you tow? You also might want to post your towing ??? in the towing section.

What area of NY are in?

Suffolk / Nassue boderline on Long Island
We go to Ohio twice a year and thats 500 miles each way. We also go to atco/english town anywhere from 10-20 times a year.

the trailer is a 20' enclosed car trailer that is just over 3000lbs. looking at going with a 26' in the near future that weighs over 4k. the car is about 2500lbs plus another 2500lbs in gear. (spare parts, tools, compressor, jacks, Quad, etc..) so in the area of 8-9000lbs.

thats why i am looking for a diesel. i found a pretty nice 2001 f250 lariat. for 14k. i like it. thinking about picking it up, just not to sure if it still have the diode problem

Welcome,
Your on the right track looking at an 01, in fact if you can find a nice low mileage 7.3 then that is the ticket.
Stay away from the 6.0 as the term powerjoke really applies here. This motor is nothing but problems.

I wouldn't turn my cheek to the dodge truck. An 03.5-07 5.9 cummins is the best diesel motor avail today. I had an 05, and now an 07 dodge 3500 and they are bullet proof trucks. My 06 f350??? It's for sale.

96k is a tough decision.
That kind of mileage isn't anything for the motor, but the rest of the truck could be a problem.
If it was private party, and an original owner, and the truck was a gem then I'd do it.
Off a dealer lot means it was probably bought at an auction, probably had little maintenance, and driven into the ground.

i know the truck was well taken care of. its in a decent size dealership. the truck was parked out front of the dealership, when i came from my road test, a gentleman came running across the street. and asked if i was going to buy it and if i was going to buy please take care of it. i tought he was fullof sht till he brought me oer to his house to show me all the bills/service records of the truck. i got the whole story on the truck. he is a retired state worker/fireman. he did road construstion for the state. which explains all the damn strobe lights in the truck. transmisson was a rebuilt trans. nothing special in it. saw the bills for that. i spoke with him for about a good two hours. he even had his old insurance cards and i matched the vins up so i know he wasn't bs'n me.

now the only downside.
the wheel wells of the truck is starting to rust. you can just see the rust coming threw on the bed.
