New member with purchase quandry
I am a new member here and I am about to buy another truck. The purpose of the purchase is to buy a truck that will be used for personal use in building a new home, and then to service it into the future, including pushing a plow down a long driveway in winter. Right now, I may have the option of a couple of buys that might be too good to be true. The trucks are similar but very different, and I would appreciate opinions. Here are my selections:
Truck #1: 1995 F350 4X4. 75000 miles under two owners. 454 gasoline engine. Condition is immaculate.
Truck #2: 1999 F350 4X4. 150,000 miles original owner. 7.3 litre diesel.
Fuel cost here in Maine is NOT in favor of diesels, as the price per gallon is more than fifty cents higher than premium gasoline. The truck will accumulate probably not more than 6-8000 miles per year, so fuel mileage isn't abig issue.
I would LOVE to have a diesel, but I am concerned that the diesel with its accelerated mileage might be prone to component failue in the truck itself.
The gasoline engine truck is immaculate, and a manual transmission seems to argue to me that it will bring fewer maintenance issues over time into the future.
I KNOW that this is a diesel forum, but this might be the best place to get this kind of information. Which truck would you chose and why?
