New truck owner from Roseville, CA

I have wanted a truck for a long time, but not as a primary vehicle. I finally got myself a "beater" truck for all the many things I'd like a truck for. It is a 1987 F250 SuperCab with the 6.9L Diesel. It has an aftermarket (duh) turbo system and a U.S. Gear Dual Range Auxiliary Transmission. It has many issues, including the A/C is shot and not worth fixing (compressor is bad, as is a hose and the accumulator/drier unit). I've fixed many other little things, nearly every little light bulb on the stinking thing; turn signal indicators, "Wait to Start", "Water in Fuel", engine light, marker lights on the roof, courtesy light, etc... Many of them were not burned out yet but I changed them since I was there anyway... especially in the dash. I just cleaned the K&N air filter on the turbo unit yesterday, as well as change the oil for the first time. I lubed all the Zerk fittings I could find underneath too. I'm NOT a mechanic, but I'm somewhat mechanically inclined and trying to learn. My father-in-law has been a mechanic, but never with Diesels. He is now a parts guy for a city fleet maintenance center, so removed from actually doing the work. I've come to this forum for the purposes of learning how to make the most of my "new" truck.
