Thank you Don

Okay Don thank you for your help. The issues I am having are many. I have done lots of research here hoping to find the answers. And now I just have several more questons to ask lol.

I have a 1995 ford econoline van with the 7.3 psd in it.

#1 issue is that the speedo pegs as soon as I get going about 5 mph.

#2 issue is that the odometer says ERROR" instead of reading the mileage

#3 issues is that the van acts likes it might die whenever I shift into gear

#4 issue is that it has almost no power at all.

#5 issue is that I pulled several dtc's that are as follows. P1280 ICP circuit out of range, P1298 IDM fault, (no communication), P0476 Exhaust pressure control valve performance, Also no number but Crankshaft position sensor fault,

The engine does not smoke at all and has all new fuel, air, oil and tranny filters installed, I even flushed the fuel tank and filled it with fresh fuel before running it, I just purchased it for work and it sat for 2 years and is an ex delivery vehicle. I replaced all of the belts and hoses on the vehicle, I replaced both the starter and alternator as they failed quickly from sitting for so long, as well as both batteries

I replaced the tranny filter and fluid and it was clean and smelled proper (not burnt at all), I replaced all of the hoses, thermostat, coolant and belts before running it, (dry from sitting, didn't want to risk a faliure), I replaced the front wheel bearings, seals, and all of the brakes, including rotors.

I have no idea of the mileage as the odo is not operational.

I will say that I am interested to see what you guys have to say about these issues. I have several things to check already but would like to get greasy all at once if possible and check everything I need to at once.

I have a full complement of tools and scanners and have been a technician for 12 years but have not done any diesel repairs that dealt with computers as of yet. Thank you all for any and help you may provide, Dave

Wow very well listed and easy to understand. I am a diesel tech and have always wrked on the newer 7.3's and current. The icp code, you may want to take a look at the sensor connector. I had had one that was oil fouled due to a failed sensor. The idm fault code may lead to an idm replacement(kinda pricy-module that runs the injectors{idm-injector-driver-module})if you find that all the wiring integrity in tact, thats what the pinpoint test will probably tell you do. The instrument cluster is probably....um for the sake of better words!!!!!!! messed up. If the odometer reads error then that is probably a good sign to get a new one. That maybe also effecting your trans control. Just a thought. happy to help lemmie knw-pbeu135@hotmail.com

Thank you DSL

Thank you for the info and advice sir.

I am hoping someone will be able to inform me of the location of the ICP sensor????

I pulled the IDM module and Just finished (testing ) it and HMMM whataya know the sucker was probably swimming for awhile now! I would guess I got a spray can cap full of water out of the unit itself! just started draining as I removed it, That's always fun to see when you have an electrical or electronic item.

I was figuring the cluster to be bad as well and I am off to see if I can locate a good used one on the net somewhere.

p.s. any other advice would be much appreciated!

Welcome to TheDieselStop

Like the others said, there are lots of people on here who are willing to help.

That one points you to the exhaust backpressure sensor, which mounts on the front of the engine above the water pump, and has a tube that runs down to the front of the passenger side exhaust manifold. The tube can plug with soot, causing the sensor to not be able to "see" the pressure in the exhaust. Here's a photo of the EBP sensor (on a pickup). 28333EBP_Sensor_1.JPG

Your ICP sensor is located on the driver's side head toward the front, just behind the alternator.

I'd suggest that you post your engine related issues in the 7.3L Engine & Drivetrain Forum, and your other van-specific issues in the Van forum. Both of them are a little further down the main menu of forums. You'll get much better exposure there.
