Newbie in the market for a truck

To start with I have never owned a diesel powered vehicle. I have driven a couple, but that's about the extent of my experience. I currently live in Southern California but I am moving to Alaska within the next 6 months. I'm looking for the in and out of the ford diesels, I personally like the mid-late 90's body style. Ideally I would like a truck that can pull a decent size boat if needed. What years should I stay away from? Are the turbo engines better than the N/A? Is there a better engine / transmission combo I should look for? What sort of millage and repairs are regular and acceptable? Any help would be great. thanks. --Evan

'95-'97, best bet IMO 7.3 and auto later years are quiter. I wouldn't get a non turbo earyler IDI truck. And most important do not get a F250 unless you get one with a D60 in it..those roads will just be misserable with a TBI D50 F250
