I am going to finda way to delete this system. I have all the wiring/edod drawings in route. Trust me here, I have figured out the VW electronics, I can figure out these. The Germans are pretty fart smellers with thier systems and some guys and myself worked them out for a 20 hp boost with a 10 cent resistor from radio shack. We will find a way around this idiotic regeneration crap! That may not sound like alot, but it's only a 90 hp engine. That's a pretty large increase in the scheme of things. My little car will scoot and gets 53 mpg.

I doubt the resistor trick is going to work. If it is anything like my 08 Dodge, you will need a fooler box that has the right tables for the sensors to read or you will get a CEL.

CJheap: I'm not going to say alot here because I got a little rough/rude with a couple other folks. You are absolutely right, a resistor is not going to fix this. But I truly believe a solution can be figured out without accessing the computer. Maybe tapping pressures and temps. prior to the DPF and accentuating them??? I'm still trying. Later.

Up fitters remove the DPF's without problems. Monroe truck equipment was selling 4 large containers of "super low mileage take off ford Diesel particle filters" after fulfilling a contract to send upfitted trucks to an overseas Market that did not require DPF's.
I know a good tuner can remove the DPF programming from an 08+ silverado. Don't ask me how I know this though.

I am a firefighter by trade and this is the first time I have heard of any factory altered 08's. However I can see how they would exempt a truck designated for wildland fire use. I wouldn't be a concerned about the DPF ®en mode starting a back fire, we could put that out. I would never want one of those things going into regen mode while I am parked with grass/brush underneath it. Chiefs don't like it when you tell them you burned up a 75k truck + equipment. I have seen vehicles burned up from exhaust starting fires underneath them, I imagine the 1100 deg would guarantee one. I am guessing the fire dept. or firetruck builder that speced the truck out was thinking ahaead and had all the exhaust emissions removed and regen stuff turned off. Thats good thinking and I will have to bring it up when we spec out some new brush trucks seeing how these emmision requirements are a reality from now on.
As for the air intake my best guess is they are just trying to keep it as high as possible to keep it out of the smoke/dust. Smoke lacks the O2 and can choke your engine out in the heat of battle. We also have to change out the filters on our 2000 7.3 brush trucks after almost every grass fire because they get so caked up with the black soot they can't even be blown out.
