Ford 6.0L VGT Turbo Replacments

I posted this poll on a different forum and would like to compare results.

If you voted yes, did Ford warranty it?

Were you running a performance chip?
(If you are not comfortable answering this question, that is understandable)

64K miles

No trouble but interested in an 03 turbo or an aftermarket with more VOLUME for more thrills per mile!! I fugre the factory 03 would be more affordable and less hassle to install.

Our aftermarket 6.0L Turbo Thruster kit is slated to be "re-released" in March 2009, we are working to further improve the spool up time on the charger and should have it ready for spring.

Thanks good feedback!

No mods huh, do you know what failed on the turbo's? or what Ford claimed happened to them?

Turbo replacement

I took the truck in for servicing (oil, tires etc) and I mentioned that there didn't seem to be the same power as new.
I was 6 months to the end of warranty (3 Yrs) so they they said that they would check it out.
The next day they told me that they were sending away for a new turbo. The truck would be in the shop 3 or 4 days.

In the end, it cost me nothing or very little & I had more power. Good.

I'm also aware that all dealerships make good $ on warranty work in slow times.

The truck is off warranty now. So, I will be paying for everything from now on. I'm crossing my fingers....

Good feedback, sounds like you have an honorable dealership to deal with. They get paid less for warranty work, but if they are slow its better than no work. The best advise I can give for that new turbo is to open it up frequently, let it stretch it legs! The vanes in those variable turbos are prone to getting stuck, if you idle around all the time carbon will build up on the vanes and eventually not allow them to open all the way when you need them to.

I voted for "more then twice", however, I don't know exactly the failure you are looking for so I would like to clarify. My 04 I used to own at around 15k miles had the VGT portion fail 4 times and Ford replaced the VGT solenoid under warranty. After the turbo failed like the previous on the 5th time, Ford replaced the entire turbo under warranty and I did not have another problem from then on. I never had a catastrophic failure. 04 ext cab shortbed 6spd manual all stock.

My current 07 in sig has had zero problems

No failures

Near 90K and have never had one issue with the turbo. Or the 6.0l as a whole as a matter of fact. The truck is used to pull heavy on a 600 mile loop for work. Maybe this is why the turbo keeps clean, I'm guessing anyway?

Thanks guys, again great feedback!

I set this up so guys that were having problems with warranty being denied on the variable turbos could revert to this thread and create a common ground to identify a problem with these chargers.

So far it seems like the dealers are taking care of most of you which is great to see!!

I have a bumper to bumper 7 year 100k so I'm not taken any chances with the warrenty..going on 50k miles now.

No idea except it chuged..boost guage bounceing between 10-15 lbs trying to pull a hill....guess what it has started again
FYI this Ex. spends 90% of the time on the freeway and we live in NV and go to CA every 4-5 weeks so see lots of big hills!
