Hello Mark. I have a 2001 ford excursion with 4R100 transmission. I have read your forever popular "how to change transmission fluid for 4R100" and still not clear where is the cooler return line (the one where I will connect my clear tubing to drain the old oil). Would you have another diagram for me to look at? "The arrow at #2 shows the banjo connection where the cooler return line and the cooler bypass line connect to the rear of the transmission" is this the line I disconnect to drain out? Thanks in Advance Mark!
I have a 1999 F350 4x4 SRW with 270xxx miles with a automatic transmission, about a month ago my transmission started slipping and later bit the dust. So I've been searching for a used transmission and found one. I talked to the guy and he said that he bought it for his 2000 F250 that come out of a 1999 F350 and when he installed it that it shifted fine but the overdrive light would come on. He said he took it to a transmission shop and they told him that a 2000 F250 truck has to have a 2000 model transmission. My question for you is if the transmission shop is right or there is something wrong the tranny to cause the OD light to come on? Thank you.
The problem was the main valve body and the solenoid pack. Had the Ford dealership run the diagnostics and now I just need to get the parts and get it fixed.
Any advice as to which Ford vehicles that I can find the parts on from a scrap yard? Where are the modules located? I like the idea of plug in and go.
I tried to use one from my 2002 F350 Powerstroke but the plastic boxes were different. I could not find an obvious place to plug into on the 2004 Excursion.
I am also considering using a Truck-Lite 97300. It has 3 wires to connect. Do you have any experience installing this particular unit?
Mark, have you had experience with a 5r110 in an excursion with 135,000 miles downshifting to 1st or 2nd gear at highway speeds? The problem occured once when fluid was low (about a quart), few times when hard braking, and a few times during highway speeds with correct fluid level. After this eratic downshift transmission goes into limp mode; 2nd gear only while tow/haul light flashes. Other than the hard braking occurances this only occurs on long road trips (1000 miles). During normal day to day driving it performs perfect. Any suggestions?
The light is on now, and I have tried a couple off different computers to read the code with the same result. It turns off the light and the truck runs fine for a little bit, then the light comes back on and it goes back to shifting hard. I have also tried the add a quart of transmission fluid and reset the computer. That only worked (turned the light off) for about 20 to 30 minutes.
Hi Mark, I am having trouble with my F250 7.3 diesel with an E40D trans. My overdrive off light keeps flashing and the transmission is shifting hard. I have taken it to a transmission shop twice and whenever they hook it to the computer they do not get a code, the light goes off and then it shifts and runs fine until the light comes back on. All it is doing is shifting hard with the overdrive light on. I have already replaced the FIPL sensor/switch as well as the VSS on the rear diff. What could possibly be wrong with my truck?
Hello Mark
I have been reading a web sight on a reply you had mad back 2007. This was a P1728 Code. This sound pretty close to my problem. I have a 97 Ford f350 with 107000. The over drive will flash shift abnormal between 2-3 and some down shifting. This is a automatic trans. But some days it will reset its self and be fine for a week and then start over with the light and the shifting.
