BTW, Good job getting the seal in with your home made installer. As far as the hydraulic Loctite, that's totally unnecessary. That wear ring wouldn't move even if you put grease on it! The permatex is just a bit of added insurance in the unlikely event the wear ring did leak.
The seal I got was the type with the teflon (?) seal with the wear ing as a complete assembly. I never broke it apart but simply pressed it on as a unit....just didn't put any hydraulic loctitie on it that I've seen others mention and that's what got me little worried.
Just to let you know, there are several variations of that seal type. I am assuming that the one you installed is a teflon seal that comes with the wear ring as a complete assembly. There were some that did not use a wear ring and just had a nylon installation sleeve that dropped off as the seal went in. Those require no sealant (or oil) on the crank. They don't seem to be very common anymore. I had forgotten about them until this discussion. A conventional seal will just have a black rubber lip with no ring of any kind. Those require oil on the crank.
