I hope this off-topic forum gets some visitors 😉

I bought a Powerstroke from an old-timer who purchased the truck new and had all service performed at the local Fremont Ford dealership in Rawlins, WY.

It is no longer in business.

I have been attempting to get the service history of the truck, especially for the recent clutch work since I will likely be selling the truck. I tried the Ford dealer in Laramie and they said they could not help and could not offer any suggestions since the local dealers each maintain their own records.

Any suggestions?

Any Ford Dealer should be able to pull an Oasis report on the truck. It all goes into a common database.

Shoot a PM to ford_doctor here on TDS and he should be able to help you out on service history. All that's needed is the VIN.

Well in that case, I am going to have a talk with Laramie Ford for being uncooperative. I think there was a UW football game on the TV so maybe that has something to do with it. 😉

You may have to pay for this report.

Remember dealers don't do anything for free anymore.

Artic Driver, there is Fremont dealerships all over Wyoming. Cody, Powell, Lander or Riverton (maybe both) and maybe other towns like Gillette and Sheridan. One of them might be helpful.

Only the dealership that performed non-warranty work will have those records for your vehicle. With regard to warranty and Ford ESP repairs, that information is maintained by Ford Motor company for vehicles under 10 years old. That can be accessed through OASIS as mentioned and I can enter a VIN and print it out in about 60 seconds. I don't see why this would be a problem.

The service manager at the Lander dealership is researching how to get the service records from the now shuttered Rawlins shop.

Thanks !

You're welcome, hope he can do you some good.

Lexus and maybe 2-3 others have the fully linked DMS that shares all service info. The rest of the dealer mgmt systems have linkage for warranty submission or the warranty is submitted live online by someone looking at DMS repair order and creating a claim in the manufacturer system. The other dealer may be limited in what they can find unless they for some reason have a path to the system that dealer used. The incomplete linkage of all this data is what Carfax or other vehicle reports are spotty. The quick lube place may be in a system that shares and the indy shop and dealer may not be for a large number of vehicles. Same for body repair as insurance paid stuff will usually show but the person that pays to fix $2000 damage and not involve insurance will not show. The mega dealer owning groups may share info as many of the services pays a very small amount but if you have a lot of records and the company paying you does all the work then you sell them info for 2 cents per record.

Fremont Ford-Lander never called back so I now have a message left with the Manager of Fremont Ford-Casper.

The Service Counter said the service history of all the Rawlins customers is probably lost. How would warranty work ever be covered if the original receipt is gone?

ford_doctor 02-14-2019 11:21 AM

If you mean "service Part Warranty" none of it could be covered without a receipt. No shirt, no shoes no service. No receipt? No warranty.

That makes sense but its surprising to me that when a Ford dealership goes out of business that they are not required to keep seevice records “on record” someplace.

Even more shocking is that the service receipts were not preserved by the owner. Ultimately that is where the responsibility rests.

Being a Ford repair, the PO probably thought he would never require a warranty claim. 😉

I tend to agree. A cash clutch job is not usually something that goes wrong due to parts or workmanship... especially YEARS after the fact considering this would be a wear item. I always leave an open minded approach though because you never know. I am also perplexed that a "new" owner who did not pay for the original repair is working so hard to warranty something? Am I getting this wrong? Perhaps some additional specific details are in order.
