USB Wireless adapter problem

Its been a while since being here but I know this is the place to get good answers for any problem.
I have a wireless network in my home where I use four computers. The router is a Linksys . My wife's desktop, running XP, has been using a Linksys USB wireless adapter for quite some time and recently became intermittent so I replaced it with a Qwest USB wireless adapter built by Actiontec. This new adapter is a plug and play and required no software to be loaded. It uses the Windows XP wireless network interface. It works great but has an issue. It will not auto connect. Each time I turn on the computer I must manually connect and enter the WEP security code before it will connect. What a pain. I have checked all settings I can find and it appears connection should be automatic but it isn't. What am I missing? If you need more info to help me I will try to answer the questions.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.
