WPA for the old duffers

It takes a while for the pictures to come up, but worth the wait. This will make you thankful for what we have today. We have come a long way baby!

-----

History Lesson:

If you're old (as some of us are) and love photography (as I do), you'll enjoy these old WPA photos. Kodachrome had a few problems at birth, but within a year or two became the premier color film of all time. Nothing has ever surpassed it for resolution and archival qualities. Sadly, it has essentially died out and only one lab in the world will still process it, and then only 35mm.

The WPA was a good thing for America at the time, and because they paid professional photographers to document the program we have a legacy of photographs, many in color, that realistically documented that period in our history. This site (link below) is well worth a look if you like history and photography.

The name of the instrumental accompaniment is Vaya Con Dios. I don't know who's playing it, but it doesn't sound like Floyd Cramer.

Sounds exactly like Floyd Cramer's signature "slip note" piano style to me. So if that's not Floyd, it's somebody that's very good at imitating Floyd's sound.

My Sierra Blanca (Spanish for White Mountain) in the sig pic was a great pickup for 11.5 years. I sold it several years ago. I drove a hand-me-down 2003 F-150 SuperCrew 4.6L 2V for a while, but it was unacceptable for towing more than a rowboat. Replacement is a 2012 F-150 EcoBoost SuperCrew Lariat that tows my 5,000-pound TT like a dream. Replaced the 2012 with a 2019 F-150 3.5L EcoBoost with max tow.

I believe the Tennessee Waltz may refer to a song in the more history page.
I have a 33-1/3 lp by Cramer - with the "Via con Diaos" on it. Later made even more famous by Les Paul & Mary Ford.

That looks like a '39, or '40 red Ford by the SF bridge I one had a '38 & a '40
looks like my old '40 - but mine was black - could be a '41.

We could not afford Kodachrome - had an old Brownie box camera. I still have pic's of me taken with it when I was about 2 - or so ( just BEFORE dirt - AND Smokey).

I have, what I am pretty sure is, a very old set of Ectachrome slides of me in 1949 after Christmas sometime, just before my Dad took me to see Roy Rogers in Richmond, VA.. Damn, I was a cute kid at 5 years old.

I remember the lady in the 1st photo, the depression-era lady with the kids, dying in Scotts Valley, CA soon after I moved to CA in 1983
