Help! Can’t get the 3 thrust washers & snap ring in groove
New front hubs. I bought the installing tool to drive the oil seal all the way on and it has a machined flange that sets the axle in the knuckle at an exact depth.
I torqued the hub nuts (4) on the back side of the knuckle to 133 lb/ft
On both sides (Left & Right) when I install the plastic washers (4 grooves) thrust washer, hex washer, and thrust washer there is no room to get the snap ring into the groove.
The outer most thrust washer actually lines up perfectly with the groove.
I put the porta power between the axle tube and u-joint and tried pushing axle out slightly while applying force to other side with a pry bar.
I can not gain anymore clearance for the snap ring.
Snap ring will go in perfectly if I leave one thrust washer off.
As a note when I disassembled the Right side it didn’t have all 3 in place—was missing one of the round thrust washers.
Do I need to pull the hubs back off— move axles out slightly—put hubs on loosely— Install thrust washers and snap ring— and then torque the hub nuts(4) to pull it in to correct depth?
I’ve got a lot of force trying to push the axles outward and just seems there is absolutely no give.
I’m kind of at a loss right now what to do— and I’m going to have to order another thrust washer for the original missing part on right side.
