Rotor rust question

I have had my truck setting around for weeks before and noticed no rotor rust when looking through the wheel. 3 days ago I tore everything down to do ball joints and left the rotor leaning up against a wall outside but not IN the rain. Just started to put everything together and the rotor is almost totally covered in rust. All surfaces. Now---these things go through water all the time. It was taken off in rain and had been setting in rain for a month. When it came off it was mostly rust free, and not a speck of rust on the breaking surface. So, WHAT THE HECK?

Why after its disconnected?I just looked at the other three on the truck and they have no surface rust at all..
