'2011 6.7L Continued issues

Hi all,

So. Blown engine at 121k. $16,855.00 rebuild running complete drop in. 1000 miles later vacuum pump is bad. Been at the dealership on and off for 4 weeks. No assistance from ford. I'm totally done.
Please stop buying these motors.

The Vacuum pump is a $79 part and I think it's 2 or 3 bolts to replace. I had one go bad on my 2006 6.0L truck at 105,000 miles and its all of 15 minute repair.
Any vehicle with over 100,000 miles could be hit with this repair. I definitely would not expect assistance from Ford on replacing that.

Nobody likes to spend $16,000 on replacing an engine in a used truck that is only worth $25,000. Most of these engines are easily running well past 100,000 miles. My 2011 was sold at 145,000 with only what I'd consider minor repair work. Ford is selling 25,000+ per month of these engines for 6 years now, and we are only hearing of a few blown engines. With out any details of why your engine blew your come across as just venting for having bad luck. And I can't blame you, But I'm pretty sure you can't tell folks to avoid the 6.7L because it has problems.

Thanks for the reply. I totally understand Stuff happens but when a crank shaft breaks and destroys a motor that is supposed to run for 300k miles. I also know it's a very common problem on the first generation 6.7. Ford has corrected the issue in the newer generation motor and should recall a known defect. I just cant understand how anyone, warranty or not, can justify a repair like this.

Not on a 6.7L PSD engine. It is much more difficult as it is bolted to the front of the engine and buried a bit, unlike the electric pump n your 6.0L Super Duty.

Good to know it that it is harder to get at. Autonation still shows the 6.7L vacuum at $79 so the pump itself is not expensive.

There must be a very persuasive vac pump salesman at Pierburg (I think, but it may be another supplier).. These pumps are on BMW, Mini, Volvo, Audi/VW, and some others and they all leak the same way.

Cost of the pump was not the issue. The fact that I spent 16k on this motor and to still have issues was the point. After 2000 miles on the new motor I have a noise like air sucking and chattering coming from the right side near the air intake. Ford said it was due to my aftermarket cold air intake. I put my factory box and filter back in and the noise remains the same. Dealership said that I will have to deal with it and that it's characteristic of the new motor. I find this very hard to believe. Same intake on the old motor and never heard this before. The nightmare continues.
