Filter ReGen Message - Is This Normal?

2016 F350 - 24k miles

When the message pops up "Cleaning Exhaust Filter" it only sticks around for about 30 seconds and disappears even if I don't hit "Okay".

It never stays on for more than that.

I do a lot of city driving but during the summer it has been going on trips of 200+ miles on the weekend.

Yesterday I got a "Exhaust Filter Clogged" message.

My question is "is it normal for the cleaning message to disappear on its own and is the cleaning happening in the background? Secondly, is there a way to force a regen when I know the trip I am taking will be for an extended highway drive period?"

Thanks you!

I donít know if this is true or not but the mechanic that is currently working on my truck says once it goes into regen it is supposed to state that it was completed and what percentage of the filter is cleaned. I have 54k on the truck and never once had any of those messages pop up. I just had the intake blown off because my filter was exhausted and I had the same that it would pop up and go away quickly. I wish ford would let us have access to these sensors without having to buy aftermarket equipment. It would allow us to keep the trucks in better condition if we could keep a better eye on them

The message does disappear with or without pressing the OK button. I have never received a "Cleaning Finished/Complete" message.

You can generally tell without monitors by watching the instant fuel mileage bar graph. It will stay low, below normal, during regen. One regen completes, it should return to normal bar graph.

You can use FORScan to turn on the Exhaust Filter screen if you have the center screen display. This screen takes the guess work out of is it doing a regen or finished or...

Here is one forum that goes into how to turn it on with the dealer doing it....by using FORScan

https://www.powerstroke.org/forum/ge...ut-dealer.html

The later versions of FORScan can do a manual/stationary regen. You can also install it on your smartphone to monitor the truck.

1) Yes. The message is VERY short and doesn't need a OK.
2) Yes. Cleaning will generally last for up to 20-30 miles (my experience in HWY speed driving 50+) depending on your driving at the time.
3) Yes. The system can be enabled to do a Manual Regen. Personally I'd suggest a dash cluster change to see the system is coming due, then plan the extra driving as I described above.
