Point of TSBs?? Quality of product??
Won't Stand Behind 55,000 mile Powerstroke So, at 55,000 miles, my 2011 6.7l decided to blow an injector due to a snapped injector clamp. A broken clamp that is a known issue to Ford on the early build 6.7L (TSB 14-0233). Of course, my truck is out of warranty as it is 6 years old. I am being quoted $900 plus dollars to replace to broken clamp ($22.00 part) and bent injector return line. Due to this being a known issue to Ford I asked for assistance on the repair.
Ford response: not covered under warranty. Not going to assist in any way with cost of repair. Does not matter that it is a known issue, nor does it matter that your motor only has 55,000 miles.
Thanks Ford. Way to stand behind your product. A motor that is supposed to last hundreds of thousands of miles.
My philosophy was buy new, maintain, and get out before warranty was up. I could hardly rent such a truck for $300 a day, so I really have been quite happy with the financials of owning and selling.
I did just order a 2017 Lariat with almost every option, and the cost was much higher than my last Super Duty, a 2005 XLT, so I expect the $300 per month will no longer be the same. Most likely around $500 per month of ownership if I again sell at just below 100,000 miles. Still, I'll be happy with that.
I'm sorry to hear about your upcoming expenses. I don't think it's Ford's fault. To expect a perfect machine, even if bought new, is folly. You take your chances when you gamble by buying a lower cost used vehicle - be it a truck, a refrigerator, an airplane or a yacht.
The only way to nail down your long term costs is to buy new and sell at the right time. You may come out ahead buying used, but you may not.
