Question '2013 6.7L - BD Exhaust Brake

Considering adding the BD Variable Vane Exhaust Brake to my F-350. I previously had a 1996 F-250 7.3 with the BD Exhaust Brake and it worked superbly. Wonder if any on the forum has purchased the new exhaust brake and what their comments are?

Will adding the brake void the manufacturer's warranty?

I would bet it does,, that's alot of strain on components,, that's not expected when they designed them...

Your 2013 has a factory installed engine brake. It's turned on when you're in tow/haul mode. Mine works great. Even got a tune from GDP that adjusted it, haven't towed anything with the truck yet since that tune was available, but I'll be trying it soon.

I am aware it has a factory installed brake and I use it a lot. It just doesn't work as good as the BD Exhaust Brake did in my '96 F-250. I tow a 36' 5th wheel trailer with a motorcycle tied to the back on a Swivel Wheel trailer. Yes, I am heavy. I am just looking for better braking without having to do a disc brake conversion on my 5th wheel.

36' fifth wheel is probably not nearly as heavy as you think, (maybe you just want to think it's heavy) My 33' barely let's my truck know it's back there, and if your brakes work well on the trailer, stopping shouldn't be an issue. Flat beds with heavy loads, guys hauling livestock and hay, are heavier loads I think..

25,900 pounds on the certified scale. I think I am HEAVY. I can stop alright, but would like to be able to not have to use my brakes as much on the downhill grades. Betting the flat beds with heavy loads have disc/air brakes.

I would be interested in hearing about the GDP and your comments on how much it improves the performance. You don't say what year truck you have.

Mine is a 2012, I may have a chance to tow my trailer this weekend. It won't be very heavy, but I'll let you know how the brake works.

Jim - I have a 2013 6.7 F-250. I had a BD exhaust kit installed and it works amazingly well. (Except) Twice after long downhill braking (California's Grapevine and also Pacheco Pass) my reduced power mode came on. Ford gave me run around about after market equipment. Today I called BD direct and spoke to their Tech Department. Ford has a timer that starts when it senses back-presser. BD said all I need to do is touch the throttle every couple of minutes or push the switch off and on to reset the timer. Steve Wilson

Just pulled my 7x14 tandem enclosed with a light load. The turbo brake tune from GDP on my EzLynk worked amazingly well! Barely had to touch the brake pedal on a 40 mile trip! Down hills brake engaged and even sounded like it worked better than stock exhaust brake. Next weekend I'll be pulling a 20+ foot TT all the way to anchorage so it should do well there too!
