Thumbs up SEIC (High Idle) MOD PICTURES

STEADY PRESET RPM:

Here are the resistor options. FWIW my local Ford Diesel Tech recommends 1200 RPM under no load. So that would be a 20K resistor. I used a .5 Watt Resistor in my testing.

VARIABLE RPM CONTROL:

This is the potentiometer I used:

Hope this helps someone and can save some hassle!!

I posted this in the other thread, but:

For those that go the potentiometer route, you need to add a resistor inline on the white/brown wire.

Add a 680 Ohm resistor inline to make sure the range remains within the range of 680-51K.

1K might be easier to get at the Shack though: 1K resistor in line, you will get 1K-51K, or approximately 900-2800 RPM

They list a 680 Ohm resistor, but it seems to be online only.

Lots of options for combining the size of the pot and resistor to get the range you want.

So this only turns off by the switch? So effectively it could be used a poor mans cruise control and will hold whatever RPM you set it at it will hold? Nothing wired into the brake to turn it off?

Idle only... Not a poor man's cruise control. There are certain conditions that have to be met, one of which is the vehilce is in Park.

BTW - I like the write up and photos. It makes it much easier to understand. I think I will go the potentiometer route....

Ok got it all soldered and shrink wrapped. I haven't permanently mounted the pot yet but it's fine where it is for now. Works like a champ!!

I tried to add a 1K resistor with the 50K pot which still should have kept me in the range but couldn't get it to work reliably with the resistor in any position. Maybe it needs two 500 ohms? I don't know. But this works for and is simple so I just went this route.

Looks like switch 4 brown wire should be connected to SEIC yellow/green. Resistor is wired between PTO_REF white/brown and PTO_RPM green. That looks like it would change the idle speed depending on the value of the resistor. I'll have to try it when I get some time.

This is what I gave you last night and you said it didn't work.

What did you change to make it work on a fixed RPM?

I know you used a pot to make it adjustable but the fixed RPM version should have worked.

Nice looking job by the way.

Ketoth,

You were correct. I was using the wrong brown wire. I was using BROWN W/ WHITE STRIPE. Once I switched to WHITE W/ BROWN STRIPE worked like a charm!!

Once I figured that out I moved on to the potentiometer.

Thanks for the help!

If the PTO provision is ordered, is there a factory control box to adjust engine RPM? What are you guys doing with this mod? My '99 and '02 will go into a high idle at warm up, doesn't this happpen in the new truck or is it for high amp load aux demands?

Yeah, I get that and understand the mechanics. Are you using it when you winch? Or just because you can?

I just wired it up, with a 20k resistor works great. thanks for the pics. They helped alot
i personally am using cause of my 800watt power inverter, sucker draws alot of juice, and from time to time, i light 12v catalyst heaters, not sure how much they draw but i know they used to cause my old chevy work truck to idle up to carry the load
