'2012 Roof Clearance Lights?

I own a 2012 F250 Lariat fully loaded. As I posted when I initially purchased the truck, it had everything that I was wanting with the exception of the roof clearance lights kit. Well the time has come to tackle this project and I’ve got everything that I need in terms of part numbers to order except for one piece of information.

Are our trucks pre-wired with a plug for the roof clearance light harness? I’ve read that this plug is located on the driver’s side, behind/below the dash… Can anyone confirm this?

A picture would be outstanding if possible, however I understand that’s unlikely. If you know where this plug is, please let me know so I can locate inside my truck.

Thanks for the help!

My truck will be going to the dealer for a couple of things on Tuesday and that along with the upfitter plug locations are questions I'm asking on my list and will be posted soon. I just purchased mine used and it too came without those lights - and something all of my past F250/350 trucks have had and they are 'missed'

(How's that for a first post here?)

Sounds good man! Whatever info you can find out about the installation process of the harness would be awesome! Thanks for looking out!

I'm surprised that no one else here has any info on this, but I guess that drilling the roof on these trucks is a scary proposition!

I can't wait to get those lights installed!

Hey Folks: First Welcome to the Forum.

A good tool to use on this forum is the “SEARCH” feature.

Hope the links below help.

The "SEARCH" feature is only helpful when you locate the information that you are in need of. It appears in looking at both of the links you provided, the members did an install of Non-OEM kits, hence not needing to utilize the either pre-exisiting or non-existent plug/harness. A hard wire sufficed here and is not what I am looking for.

I am looking for someone who installed an OEM kit and maintained use of the factory harness by plugging into an all ready pre-installed harness plug or not.

I'm attempting to locate the said "plug" and see if its actually in our trucks! Thanks for the help with the links, i think I already have about every thread on the net relating to this procedure bookmarked!

Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome!!

It looks like the 'instant' email notification isn't for newbies. Not a problem as things seem to catch up eventually.

Now, cab lights - they appear to be dirt cheap vs a few other Ford truck parts. I can't imagine why a Lariat wouldn't have them in with one of the basic options - and on mine it seems that the original owner checked about every other box but that one and upfitter switches, including the $975 chrome one - tow hooks being about it that I can see so far. It is a used vehicle, so ya take what ya get and go from there

I added the OEM cab lights to my '13. You have to replace a harness to add. It has the Sirius antenna with it as well as the side air bag modules. The connector is tucked in the driver's a-pillar. You can find it above the back of the e-brake and behind another module. It's easier to get to under the dash. I bought a punch on amazon to make the holes. I used my 2000 to measure the locations. You don't need sealant. The gaskets seal fine. Having a sunroof makes the job a lot easier.

A couple hours ago I looked at the wiring config manual for a 2012 along with the service manager and a tech It too showed the wiring following the driver's side 'A' pillar to a plug behind the dash. The tech said that he recalled that the wire was already in place across the top with individual plugs for the lights, but wouldn't "guarantee" that was cast in iron on any 2011 or newer Super Duty. I think I'm going to put that mod on a shelf for a while until I know more.

If the dealer didn't order the lights, the 5 connectors for each light are NOT there. The ordering system picks out the harnesses based on options selected. It doesn't guess that a customer is going to add something in the future.

The harness is less that $50 (Part number BC3Z-15A404-B). It took about 10-15 minutes to change it and snap it into place. The hardest part is disconnecting the two airbag connectors and the main connector on the a-pillar. You have to have the headliner dropped a few inches anyway. Like I said, the sun roof makes like 100% better.

For your lights, you went 5" or 5.5" back from the windshield molding to center line light. 8" to the left and right for the next two lights and then 13" to the two outboard lights which should give the gradual curve following the windshield line?

I can't remember what I used for the offset from the top of windshield to center of light, but I did maintain the curve. The lights should not be in a straight line.

The 8 and 13 is correct.

Does this look correct?

Marker Lamps - 6C3Z-15442-A (Qty:5)

Marker Lamp Nuts - N621903-S441 (Qty:5)

Roof Harness - BC3Z-15A404-B (Qty:1)

That's all I should need in order to knock this out this week? At some point I ran across this part number and thought that it also may be needed..

Unknown Harness - 3U2Z-14S411-UYA (Qty:1)

I'll come back and post some pics once I've finished. Also got a GreenLee Knockout for the job...

I didn't buy the nylon nuts from Ford. I think I got them at Home Depot.
