'2011 6.7L 155k miles

Looking to buy a single cab 6.7 with 155k miles. Completely stock. What are everyone's experiences with these trucks at this mileage? Is this a lot for this motor? Should I delete it as soon as it's purchased? And info will help

Also looking at a 2008 6.4 with 108k miles. Do these trucks tend to have problems that are worth steering away from? They want 17k

I would steer clear of the 2011 6.7. The early builds have a valve problem that results in a destroyed engine, job 2 trucks are supposed to be OK. I would shop for a 2012 or newer. My son has a 2008 6.4 truck he bought a couple of years ago and hasn't had any problems with it but some guys think the 6.4 is just as bad as a 6.0.

IMO the 6.4L is a 150K engine. I looked at 100s when trying to find my rig. They all had issues, most had pretty bad leaks some with as little as 20K on a new engine. One I went to test drive and the engine blew before I got there to drive it... I offered to buy it 'as is' and rebuild the motor, but they duct taped it back together and sold it at auction.

A guy who works for me had an injector crack and blew his engine (highly tuned and admittedly he was running WOT at the time...) If you're considering a 6.4L, I think you should put $10K in a savings account for a rebuilt engine when the time comes.

So, I settled on a high mileage 2012 6.7L Lariat (280K, all stock) as that is what I could afford.

Yes, I like it a lot. In fact more than I expected to.

You just have to look around and find one that has been taken care of. Check the engine hours and idle time vs miles. I've also seen a lot of Canadian re-imports, watch for those as they tend to have more under-body rust. Get a CarFax and oasis if you can. Lots of these trucks have been used hard.

I've done a few things to personalize it for my use. The only thing I've done that was necessary is replaced the shocks with Fox (980-24-677/ 647). Rides MUCH better than the Monroe that I replaced.

It is fully stock condition. I'll give it a weight loss program if anything fails in that regard. Until then, I'll just run it as is.

I would like to think that if the 2011 was going to fail it would do so by 155K miles. I say that as mine has 149K miles on it.

No, I heard all the expensive issues these (6.7) trucks can have and I must say, I was down on them pretty hard. And yes, they can have issues and when they do it will be expensive. But I've observed over the last few years and the techs that I worked with at Ford sold me on getting one. When I see these guys that have been working on diesels for 25+ years sell their beloved 7.3 and get a 6.7 they must be ok. This coming from guys who said the 6.0 and the 6.4 are junk and would not own one. So we'll see. I just figured if it makes it to 150K miles or so hopefully it's not going to have a problem. Good luck.

I just pulled my 14000 lb. Toy Hauler for the first time with this truck. Amazing! Cruise set at 65 and never even downshifted from 6th gear on the hills! Same hills with the 7.3 I had to really put my foot in it just to hold 55! Taking nothing from the old 7.3, but there is really no comparison. The 7.3 gets the job done but with the 6.7 you don't even realize there is a job!
