'2011 F250 Lariat Heated Seats Problem/Question

I have a problem with my heated seat this past week. I have looking on the forums and haven't really found much pertaining exactly to my issue, so I'll ask and see if anyone else has seen this and what the required fix is. My trim level on my F-250 is Lariat, so I have the heated /cooled front seats.

My driver side heated seat has stopped working a few days ago. When I select driver side heat on the dash, the lights light up and the seat fan runs for about 10 seconds and then stops. The seats do not get warm but the switch indicator remains lit, same results for low, medium and high settings. I have tried the passenger seat, it responds exactly as the drivers side, the lights come on the fan runs for about 10 seconds, then stops, no heat. An interesting thing about the passengers side is that the seat almost never gets used, I am almost always the sole occupant in the truck.

If I select cooling, the seat fans run normally and the seats cool on both seats.

I have owned the truck since new, it has 80,000 miles, with normal service. I have replace the seat fan filters twice, the second time was just this past June. Both the heating and cooling function have always worked fine with no problems until now.

I would be interested in knowing if anyone else on the forum has had this problem, and what service was needed to return the heating function to normal service.

Schematics show that both seats are controlled by the Dual Climate Control Seat module (DCSM). It is located under the passenger seat. There might be a problem with the DCSM since the problem is common to both seats. You might need to make some voltage checks to determine the problem.

Thanks for the reply Larry. I will do some checking. If the DCSM needs to be replaced is it just a swap out? Or does the dealer need to reprogram the BCM or any other black box?

TASCA lists the unit BU5Z-14C724-A for $116.41.

Once again, Thank You for your reply.

The Ford Workshop DVD talks about it requiring to be programmed. Does not mention the rear seats. I am not sure what or how you would go about the rear seat programming. You could try replacing the module and check the operation.

If it doesn't work properly, you could try programming it with FORScan and your As-Built data.

You can download your AB data here...

https://www.motorcraftservice.com/AsBuilt

To program, you need a laptop setup for FORScan and an OBDII interface or go to a dealer.

Here is my AB data for non-heated rear seats. You can compare it to uses to see if you need to change any programming for the rear seat heating for your truck.

If your data is different and programming is required, can you post your AB data for you 776 DCSM?

Ken,

I believe this is the rear seat control module part number 9U5Z-14C724-A.

The Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module has self test and diagnostic capability. Before just throwing parts at it I recommend having the module checked for codes. And to confirm, the module does require PMI if being replaced.
