Re: low boost?

No, you don't need to get a flash to run the Edge. It works just fine on unflashed 03s.

Re: low boost?

yeah you dont have to get the new flash, just wondering if he had thought about it. I know some of the superchips stuff you have to have the new lash for, in the directions it said it wouldnt work without it. I got the new flash and my truck runs better then it did before. It ran crappy at idle, and it is all good now.

Re: low boost?

Could someone tell me what DTC code P0299 means I see this code all the time. I could never find out what it means. My truck runs great except for a rough cold idle with some white smoke. We reaching full operating temp for the first time in the morning as I come to a stop it will romp or shutter a couple time and then once you deive it more it clears up. I do see my check engine light come on maybe once every two weeks and in the same day goes off so I have never worried about it. Thanks in advance for the help.

P0299 is set when the computer
does not see a specific EXHAUST signal during a self test.* Because the
boost is contolled by changing the turbine inlet the diagnostics assume the
problem is with the turbo and not an exhaust or sensor problem.* Your EBP
sesnor is probably biased (reading high or low for your altitude) or the
signal is erratic.* Ford says they are working on an improved EBP, so until
it is available all you can do is replace the EBP with the current level
part.
.................................................. .................................................. .........
FROM POWERSTOKE GROUP:
For those of you experiencing intermittent surging at idle and while
driving at steady speed, excessive smoke, rough running, stumbles,
lack of power, stalls, cutting out, erratic idle, bucking, noisy
engine
operation, oscillating engine noise level, and erratic EGR valve
operation, the problem may be the exhaust backpressure sensor.* The
EBP sensors are failing internally and causing an erratic signal to
the computer, or a reading that is too high or low for local
altitude.*

This is also the part causing the check engine light to come on with
a low boost code P2263 (03 and early 04) or P0299 (late 04).* Usually
these codes are set at idle or at low vehicle speeds/low RPM when
boost would not be present anyway.* In some cases the EBP is causing
EGR flow codes.

Chances are the sensor won't be acting up when you bring the truck
into the dealership.* The technician should check to see if the EBP
base reading is the same as the MAP and BARO sensors when the key is
on and the engine is off.* I have found that tapping on the sensor
bracket can cause the reading to change if the sensor is faulty.*
Sometimes starting the engine and turning it back off results in the
sensor reading a different base pressure than before.*

On a test drive I had an EBP drop the reading 3 PSI below what base
was, when normally it's 2-3 PSI higher at idle--it's like the EBP
though the truck suddenly went over 5000 feet above sea level.* I
have had severa trucks that would only cycle the EGR on and off while
at a steady speed.* If it is doing it mildly you can hear the engine
cycle between cackly and quiet.* If it is severe you can actually
hear the turbo coming on and off and feel it surge.* Keep in mind
there have also be cases of the EGR valve itself sticking and causing
it to cycle open and closed as the computer tiires to get the EGR
position sensor where it wants it.

If the EBP is more than 0.5 PSI above or below local atmospheric
pressure, or if the signal changes when the bracket is tapped, or if
the base reading changes as the engine is turned on and off or as the
engine temperature changes, or if the technician can verify the above
symptoms, the EBP should be replaced.

At this time there is no bulletin or even an offical notice out on
this problem.* A revised sensor is being tested, but is not
available.* In the meantime the only thing that can be done is
replace the EBP with the current level part as a temporary fix until
a revised part is released.
.................................................. .................................................. .........

If your EBP sensor checks out ok...there is a new flash that will cure the problem. I was throwing the same code so I took my truck in and had my sensor checked. At first I thought it was my 4" Cat Delet Turbo back with my AFE intake. Dealer performed the above test and EBP was fine. New flash fixed everything...no more intermittent puffs of white smoke and zero romps during a cold start.

Hope this helps

Re: low boost?

well before i added the edge, i had serious cold engine romping and lots of white smoke. so how much are the ebp sensors if mine needs to be replaced, as im not too interested in a reflash?

Re: low boost?

I have been having symptoms of a bad EBP sensor and went to my dealer to have it checked last week.I was told they have an updated sensor coming out at any time and he added my name to a list of about a dozen others with EBP issues. So a cure may be coming.

Re: low boost?

Should be covered under warrantee...Dealer was going to replace mine, until it checked out according to above method. Asked me if I wanted the flash which was the fix in the event EBP is not the issue. Told him yes...no more cold start romps and no more intermittent puffs of white smoke...and mileage was unaffected. Idle is a lot smoother...RPMs stayed the same...and no more P0299. Also noticed I was getting around 2 more lbs of boost driving in the lower power band (don't ask me how). Boost uneffected at higher power band. Floored on a stock engine file I will peak at 25. Floored with the chip I will hit 32.

Re: low boost?

well i guess ill pull the chip and take it to the dealer first, then get back with edge. ive had 2 edge guys tell me though that 20psi is normal, and neither one has even mentioned letting me return the attitude for a new one. i thought edge was supposed to have the best customer service around!

Re: low boost?

Could it be the pop off valve in the map sensor adapter/boost relief valve from the propane system that is throwing off the Attitude display? You could remove the pop off valve and try it easy enough, it would limit the amount of boost the attitude sees, since it picks up the signal from the MAP electronically? Re: low boost?

i was thinkin about that the other day. i didnt think the T valve would be boost restrictive though. there was no power loss when i initially hooked it up. ill give it a shot though...
