It doesn't get any better as the technology advances. If you have a 6.7L with 50 miles on it and 99,950miles of warranty left and get some bad fuel then get moisture in to your fuel system, it will be similar money.... but you won't get a new engine. That just buys you a fuel system rebuild at the dealer and you will get the same answer from Ford as stated above regarding warranty coverage. Plus most likely, you still have plenty of truck payments to make on that shiny new rig after shelling out the $10K plus to fix it.

If you have a 6.4L and the engine fails, (apparently plenty of them do around the 200K mark), normally the engine is scrap and can't be rebuilt.

There is no inexpensive answer for diesel anymore. It just depends on which roulette wheel you want to spin!

Just to reiterate my point, my '04 left me stranded again this past weekend while camping in Clear Creek, CO. Drove there fine, sat for 3 days in camp, then would not start for the trip home. Scanguage PIDs showed no Cam/Crank Sync, No FICM Sync, so off to the local auto parts store to get another CMP Sensor, which usually does the trick. I replaced the CMP sensor with a Motorcraft sensor last Feb along with the Pigtail Harness repair, and it has run since then. Local auto store had 1 and I installed it. Still no start, no CMP/CKP Sync, no FICM Sync still... Jiggled wiring, checked other PID's (ICP, IPR, checked Oil level, etc.) then finally gave up and towed it out to the road with my other truck... Just for grins, I tried to fire it after taking a pounding on the washboarded rocky dirt trail, and it started right up... I'm guessing it's the harness at this point, so I'm in the process of getting a new one and will go through all that hassle with no "for sure" knowledge that is the issue...

Right. To "reiterate your point." But how is a harness problem directly related to it being a 6.0?
I seem to recall the 7.3 psd having a common chaff point. I also recall the idis having trouble at a engine harness connector.
But I guess those are all the 6.0's fault as well, huh?
Take care of your stuff with preventative maintenance (like common chaff points on wiring harnesses come to mind) and most issues will go away.
Oh now you wanna talk about clogged oil coolers? Hmm, do some maintenance and it won't clog.....

Remember...an '04 is a 15 year old truck now. I get that the 6.0L has had more than it's share of issues, I get that the dealers were a long time figuring out what was really going on and left a lot of peoples trucks sitting on their lots with large monthly payments and no truck to drive. We all know Ford paid ridiculous amounts of warranty claims trying to save their sorry butts from this mistake.

But now here we are, it's 2018.

1. We now have seen just about every conceivable issue that this truck could have.
2. We know what it takes to fix them properly unlike the past when dealers would throw an EGR cooler in them and ignore the oil cooler because they didn't know any better.
3. The aftermarket has stepped up and in some cases provided some decent support for parts and we have the knowledge to know which ones are a safe bet and which ones to avoid.
4. We have free scan tools that run off our phones to monitor these trucks.
5. We can buy a brand new, not reman turbo from Garret for less than what dealers charge for a 4 wheel brake job.
6. These trucks are cheap to buy and the rest of the truck is pretty stout, I'd put the balance of the truck up against a GM or Dodge all day long.

You either see the value in where these trucks are at TODAY, not what they did to you over the years, or you don't.

You either decide to maintain them like a high maintenance girlfriend or you should move on. Life is too short to be angry at your truck on a daily basis.

These trucks are not for everyone and those of us who like them are very quick to state that when asked.

I run mine commercially from the mid west to the east coast. I am all about cost per mile and by learning the truck, carrying some parts and tools on the road, doing as much maintenance as possible when the truck is home and not having a truck payment in 6 years, I believe this truck is delivering... for me. If my neighbor came over who doesn't work on anything in his garage and asked me if one would make a good used truck for him to run around in, I'd tell him to run like heck from it.

Even the oldest 6.7 is now going on 9 years old. The permanent fixes are out there.

I believe!!!-----If one addresses the known 6.0 weak points and the associated problems BEFORE THEY OCCUR, drives like he cares about his truck and NOT just how it "looks" and NOT with the pedal to the metal, DOES NOT chip to get as much power as possible and does all the routine maintenance like good, thorough coolant flushes and oil changes, I'd say that there is a good (actually DAMNED GOOD chance) that the truck will do its duty for many years and miles. Am I wrong? if you think so, tell me why. My 6.0 is a late build (late 2006 I think--truck is a 2007) and I've had some ancillary system problems, but only ONE that is directly related to it being a 6.0 Diesel. Yeah, I have my fingers crossed, but I am hoping it goes to maybe 400K or more before anything serious goes wrong.

When I die and go on to whatever is next, I'll KNOW I made it to heaven if my dogs are all there.
