Hey all I have a 99.5 7.3 194k got it about 3 months ago for a really good deal (knowing I had to replace the injectors) so I decided to pull them and send them to SoCal diesel to be rebuilt put them in and the truck ran like a dream! So much more power quiet and smooth! Now Im about 500 miles post and my truck is now blowing insane white clouds when starting up as well as rough idle and very slight blue smoke if Im sitting at a light when I first punch the fuel it seems off but than it it full power runs great until I go back down to idle. The white smoke happens even if I let the truck sit for only 10-20 mins. Im worried because i pulled my fuel bowl due to a leak and rebuilt all the seals and I noticed a crap load of rust like bits on the bottom..... so now Im thinking I have fuel Tank delamination? I have already ordered a new tank and screens. My question is am I going down the right path? It really seems like my pickup screens might be clogged ? I have checked my HPOP and it’s full of oil and my fuel bowl is filling I’m just concerned about the white smoke my oil and coolant levels look ok.
*10/13 update I wrote this 10/12and today driving it has lost almost all power and shakes like crazy*
*10/14 I ran a fuel bowl worth of injector cleaner yesterday and it ran like a champ for 30ish mins and went right back*
Any input of be greatly appreciated because I’m losing my ****.... FYI I have a new tank and screens coming in tomorrow I figured I should be it ether way.
Is this a F series or an E series? A 99 F series will have a poly tank so there shouldn’t be any delamination issue. Either way, you need to get a fuel pressure gauge on the post filter port of the fuel bowl to see what’s going on there.
If there was debris in the tank it would be caught by the screens and they would eventually plug up. If anything did manage to get through the screens there is another screen at the fuel pump inlet. My guess is that the fuel bowl was just dirty from neglect, and that you probably also have a fuel delivery issue. Time for the Hutch Mod. What about re-torquing the injectors, did you do that yet? If I recall you do them hot.
Wow I didn’t know they had a poly tank this is the first time I’ve heard that & I was thinking about torquing them but if I fill up my bowl with cleaner and it runs fine wouldn’t that point that the injectors are Aok?
FYI I do have everything for the hutch mode any recommendations for deleting the fuel bowl??? I hate that thing.
You need to put some information on you truck in you sig block so we are not trying to guess what you have!!
Did you get the injectors rebuilt as stock injectors or some kind of upgrade (single shot, ect) if so did you get a chip programed for the injectors? Did the truck come with a chip/programer?
Do a search on the Hutch mod/Poon mod you will usually find both are done at the same time. The stock fuel bowl is a very good system however a regulated fuel return is good to have also (FRx is what I have run simple and low price). Once again do a search.
You could have a injector bad o-ring or two, bad injector, chip/programer causing the problem.
Don't just throw parts at it!!! You need to pull the codes and go from there. Also do a LOT OF READING before you do any changes. You have a 20 year old engine that most any O-ring/seal/system can start to fail so take your time when it comes to making changes. I am not a fan of rebuilt injectors but other things could be your problem fuel bowl is most likely not one of them.

What is “sig block” ? I had them rebuilt to stock I’ve been told the company SoCal diesel is very very reputable. No chip on the truck. I did pull the fuel bowl out to Clean it & put all new orings and line sleeves I went ahead and did the metal housing & blue spring FPR upgrade when I pulled it tho it had a boat load of rusty bits at the bottom.
Im just confused at the fact I can run cleaner in the bowl and everything behaves normal. Any thoughts on this?
Look above posts for your user name, click on it, drop down to modify signature, get er done. I am a bit worried that the fuel cleaner is pointing to the injectors. Los of the cleaners also contain a lube, that would point to a sticking injector. Klhansen may drop in on this post to add advice I have him on speed dial for my problems and I would follow his advice over mine (unless I disagree of course) Did it run fine for 500 mi and then start symptoms? Crawl under the truck and see if you have a wet exhaust on one side or the other.

Drove golden for 500 miles no symptoms at all.... my buddy came over last night he told me it’s definitely 2 or more of the injectors stuck open since I have all of the white smoke (which he told me smells as of 100% raw fuel) on start up it seems like they are stuck open.
Ripping them out today!! Aleast I have a warranty on them! I’m still pissed....
Been following your thread. I think you've found the issue. Rebuilt injectors are sometimes a pig in a poke, even from reputable shops. Been there, done that.
Of course in the middle of all of this I traded my after market wheels/ spacers for 04 wheel and upon taking off the spacers I have 6 stripped lug studs on the front drivers side SMH.
Just an update the injector shop went over and tested all of my injectors for about 45 mins a piece. They did notice on the injector that was burnt up on the tip had a cracked crush washer so I’m guessing that was the whole issue. Have to clean my cup when I get home to make sure it’s not cracked
All fixed and running smooth I think I f##ked up a injector wires on one of the valve cover harnesses went and got a replacement and she’s running like a champ smooth as butter with no smoke or Lights !
