Differential Cover Replacement

I am getting ready to replace the fluid in both differentials plus the rear cover with a G2 cover. I know the OEM cover is sealed with permatex type sealant. I am sort of old school and would like to use a Fel Pro gasket which I just happen to have on hand. Have any of you used a gasket vice the sealant? Also I plan on using Royal Purple 75w140 and just how much do I need to fill both front and rear?
Thanks,
Bill

I always use a gasket when available. Nothing wrong with RTV but sometimes residual gear oil likes to run out and if it contacts the uncured RTV you can end up with a a leak.

FEL-PRO Part # RDS55394 is the gasket. That's all I will use - I hate the silly putty method. Seems they always drool just a little. I've had great success with the gasket. The rear axle uses 6.9 pints, the front 5.8. The manual calls for 90 weight in the front.

Thanks for the replies I do appreciate it. Fel Pro RDS55394 Rear and RDS60951 Front I hope. Is that just straight 90 weight gear oil? No synthetic or friction modifier in the front?

That's what the owner's manual calls for - 90 weight hypoid gear oil.
