Filter recommendations

7.3 here with cold air intake. I bought a K&N filter but it's way too small Any recommendations? Or does it matter?

You have the k&n setup with a conical filter?
Or a flat panel k&n filter?

I recommend the 6637 filter kit from Riffraff Diesel all the air you will need at a good price.

What brand of intake do you have? You may have to get the filter that is designed for that intake, as some use odd shaped and sized openings.

don't know the brand...or don't remember. But a regular cone filter fits fine.

FWIW, from my experience, I have never saw an oiled gauze filtered intake that wasn't dusted.

The S&B oiled filter seems to do pretty well. I have run mine for about 30k miles and the intake passes the white glove test when it is pulled off to be cleaned.

However, if I were in desert terrain or just a place with a lot of dust, I would stick with the dry paper version.

That right there is some good news. Honestly though, I don't think I would still do it?

On a side note:
I had a smoke issue with my tow pig/mild setup. I hooked my manometer to the intake. Long story short; I went from 1 11.5" O.D. Donaldson to TWO. NOTICEABLY LESS SMOKE AND FASTER SPOOLING!

Here is the Donaldson equation I used from my filter research. It's been dummied down, but very close. I did find other reputable companies that had calculations and they all were consistent with one another.

Airflow (CFM) = HP (SAE/max) x SA

SA = (Specific Airflow) per HP. There are different values for 4-stroke, 2-stroke, natural aspirated vs turbo, etc. For the 7.3 Powerstroke, this number is 2.3.

So, CFM = HP X 2.3

This is a CFM airflow rate at the maximum HP your truck outputs.

Donaldson makes a blue filter that flows 1300+

You could have used the one filter instead.

Where are you buying your filters?
The wix, fram 6637 style filters don?t flow enough.

I didn't invest the time and money because two filters would look cool. Put a manometer on your intake. As for the blue limited release for RiffRaff, I will believe that number when an independent substantiates that 1300+ marketing claim.

Manometer measures pressure not CFM.
