So the search capabilities on this forum kind of suck. Through a general search I found a TDS post from 2010, entered the key words into the TDS search bar and “no information found”

So the post was about using the OEM A/T cooler to replace the power steering cooler as it seems quite a bit larger. But, there was no follow up as to whether it worked well? I do know I’m going to add a magnefine in-line filter either way. Is anyone aware of the cooler swap and the results?

I use google with the site or word forum in the search.

This is a good one. I disconnect the return at the pump and stick it into a gal jug. Cap pump return outlet. Jack up front and turn wheel right to left, press on brakes with engine running, refill pump as needed. You can do it by yourself in about 10 min max 5 min with a buddy. I use amsoil ATF because that is what the cool guys use.

Not being one of the cool guys, I use Mobil 1 Syn ATF.
It takes about 2-1/2 quarts to do a complete flush.
I don't know about using a tranny cooler for he PS systsem. Never heard of that mod. I doubt that it would really help much, as cooling isn't really an issue. What I think would help is a larger reservoir on the PS pump. The pump on our trucks is a bit weak to handle both steering and brake boost. Some guys have looked at upgraded pumps, but I don't recall what they used.
Like Denny said, disconnnect the hose at the driver's side of the hydroboost and put another hose on it run overboard to a bucket. There's no need to disconnect at the pump reservoir, just tie it up out of the way. Also, run the engine at about 1000-1200 rpm while you're flushing and keep the reservoir topped off.

I tried using Valvoline ATF in the dark red jug and it made the steering noisy like the pump was working hard. I swapped it out for Mobil-1 and the noise was gone.

I think Amsoil is a great product, but since I already have Mobil 1 in the A/T and Transfer Case I might as well keep it simple (all the same)

Cool, I have the high idle tune so that should make it easy.

Thanks Denny, I don’t know why this one didn’t pull up on my initial search.

It took me a few tries to find it. Mobil 1 will work great. I try to flush all my fluids about every 5 years. Especially the rear brakes, the brake fluid looks like Coke after that time.

I never thought about keeping the RPMs higher.

I will try that next time.

If they are still sealed then I would still use it if they were mine. Just shake them up a bit. The additives have likely settled to the bottom.
