Groan at idle

I'm trying to resolve a few issues now that spring is about, and I'm really having a hard time pinpointing my issue... I have an unsteady groan at idle it's not extremely loud but loud enough that my passengers ask after a short amount of time...it goes away with just a tiny bit of rpm, originally I was suspecting the backpressure valve but don't think that's it, I can't see really any imbalance in the harmonic balancer and the only other thing I can think is my very slight leak in my exhaust manifold is causing this groan does anyone have any ideas on anything else I can try that would be causing my issues. It is in almost the same rhythm as my backpressure valve when it's cold, and can only hear it from inside the cab... laying underneath motor or cab there is no sign of the groan

When I think of a “groan”, I think of the sound of an overloaded suspension.

Can you think of another descriptive word ?

Is it a bearing growl?
A jet engine sound like a closed EBPV?
A wooshing sound like air?

Yeah maybe more a bearing sound is what I'm leaning towards...its definetly not the ebpv whoosh it's a deeper note and it will do it in drive or park but only at under 800 or so rpm my local diesel shop hears it but can't pinpoint where it's coming from so I thought I'd ask the forum if anything comes to mind... I still thinks its power steering cause when I move the wheel the sound speeds up and when I hold on the wheel so it's working the pump I can almost make it go away

You might check your PS fluid level. Low or old fluid can cause the pump to make a growling sound.
Do you know if the fluid has been changed? (Note: Its actually ATF fluid.)
As you probably know, your power steering pump also provides pressure to the hydroboost for the brake assist.

IF it is your power steering pump then I would find a new shop because if they couldn't track that down then you don't want them wrenching on anything...Lol
