Interchangeability info on '99 F450 4x4 7.3D srw L3.73 rear end

Hey folks, Recently purchased this rig. Backed the trailer into a burm, put the pinion into the cage. I've opted to replace with a used one. Hoping to get some expert advise on years/models that will work. Specifically if 250's or 350's LS 3.73's in what years will fit? Thanks in advance..Bruce

I'm pretty sure a rear axle from an F350 SRW won't fit on an F450. An F350 Dually axle may fit, but would affect the load capacity of the truck.

Similarly, an F250 axle wouldn't fit as all F250's are SRW.

Could there be a typo in the title? He's saying a 99 F450 with a SRW 3.73? I'm not aware of any F450s that came with a single rear axle, and none of them were 3.73 gear ratio.

If the OP has any Sterling 10.5 SRW, then any other Sterling 10.5 SRW will be a direct bolt in. There apparently were some different load capacities from different years / models, but the outside structure should be the same - probably all the way to 2007 and maybe further.

Did it come from the factory that way, or was it modified by the previous owner?

I was wondering the same thing. But the OP hasn't been back yet to clarify.
You're right about the 10.5 SRW axle being a dime a dozen. Some differences in brake configuration on the real early stuff, but that's all bolt-on.

How many 99 F450 4x4's, with any differential you choose, have you seen?

Mainly bucket trucks, but they were all duallys with Dana axles. Here’s a few for sale if you want one - https://www.carsforsale.com/Search?M...Direction=Desc

Ok. Got the info u added. I found a rear end from 04 f250 that will work until i get this one rebuilt. To answer ur question...this was a 8ft bed, and was cut off to make it a short bed. I got a good deal and love the truck...but it does have a few issues that I'll be working on. I appreciate the response, and will commit to updating my progress. Thanks...Bruce

So we're all dying to know. Is the truck actually an F450 with SRW axle, or was that just a glitch in your post title?

No...not that lucky. It was a utility dually produced in Wakarusa. But it's a short bed single now and I intend on keeping her. I appreciate the interest and help. I'll probably have some tech questions in the future. Thanx...Bruce

I would be nice to know that actual rear end that is in it.

I doubt that a Sterling 10.5 that comes with the F250 & F350 will go into that truck without some work.

Sounds to me as if the work has already been done, since the previous owner cut off the back part of the truck and welded on the back part of some SRW truck. We would have to know what truck he used as the donor for the short bed, SRW, 3.73. Probably whatever he used before would work again.

Frankentruck!!
