Loud Knocking - Sounds Very Serious....

Last night after running about 30 minutes @ about 50 mph my 98 E-350 PSD started making a loud knocking that appears to be coming from front of left top area.

My wife was driving, so I don't know what it sounded like when it started. She said there was a sound similar to a pully squealing.

The knock is RPM dependant, but it does not appear to affect the power output.

I am hoping it is something like a pulley bearing gone, but the knocking indicates something is more likely banging a broken part......

I was planning to bring to dealer this am, but any thoughts as to what this could be would be appreciated.

Anyone have experience with anything like it?

Thanks!

Gary

It is the vacuum pump.

It was pretty loud so I thought it was something internal banging around.
Fortunately it is easier and cheaper to repair than major internal repairs......
