Need CPS insight??

I seem to be having some CPS issues. In the last 6 months I've put 4 CPS in my truck. It starts to develop a miss on acceleration, one time so bad I was barely able to drive 8 blocks to work when it failed, and then made it home fine. All signs of a bad cps so I did that 4 times. Now, it has the miss again, first only when I was hammering on it and it was at high rpm. Now its progressing to quite regular. It doesn't through a code, buzz test is mint, contribution tests fail on a different cylinder every time I run it, Ive been told that's because of the single shot hybrids and the tuning. Found my IPS had oil in it, so replaced with no difference. Now after testing everything I can think of , Ive come to the conclusion that the plug to the cps is pooched, and possibly the wires at the plug as well. So I am now waiting for a plug with pig tail to splice in. Guess my question is, is there anything I could have missed that would toss a CPS code like that, and is this a common issue? I notice the IPS pig tail is a common failure but found no write ups on the CPS plug. I hope this is the issue. I have no idea what else could cause this. I'm a bit stumped

I'm a newbie on powerstroke repair but I've worked for 25 years as a repair tech, and in my experience as an electro-mechanical repair tech in a semiconductor wafer fab it sounds like loose wiring to me. Motor vibrations would cause a loose connection to cause intermittent problems with performance. I'd say you could on the right track if your cps connector is suspect.

Im all in favor of good connections! What brand CPS are you using? The parts store variants are generally junk.

Spent the entire day testing and the wire to the cps is toast. Need the pigtail. Might goto ford so I don't have to wait. The CPS 's that I replaced, are all good. It was the wire failing not the CPS. That said it is the parts store Napa one. Its the grey one that I got recently. I have original black ones too, and purple from International. They all work good so far. The IPS was the hard one to get. ALL the aftermarket ones are crap, so you have to find one with a good warranty in order to get longevity out of them. Ford wanted to rape me 360 bucks for theres, so I got the Echlin one from Napa for 180 bucks and a 3 year warranty. They seem to last about 2yrs so far, so warranty covers it. They have never failed, but start to leak oil out the plug so I replace them. Fords a rip off.

Picked up a new plug and pigtail. Did a mint job spicing it in. All fixed, running great, full power restored!

What looks to have actually caused the wire damage?

I think a lot of the plug damage was age. It was real stiff compared to the pigtail, and the pig tail was long enough that were I spliced was into the good wire again. Also, vibration I assume, because the actual contact area of the plug was very loose fitting, and could move a bit, and obviously didn't contact the cps well. The new one had tight holes , fit tight, and would not wiggle at all. So I think the old on vibrated itself to be loose fitting. It sure runs good now. I think it was doing more bad than the obvious miss when it happened. It seems to have its power restored, and the power curve is real smooth again. Just glad I figured it out, 4 cps later. Hahahaha
