RT's 250K Tuneup

RT wrote: "I just pulled my valve covers to do my 250,000 mile tuneup and they were clean enough to eat off of."

So I ask RT, what does your tuneup entail?

Full Force stage 1 injectors, new glow plugs, and new UVC harnesses. I also replaced the UVC o-rings on the high pressure oil rails. Next, Im going to rebuild the turbo and replace the boots and up pipes, reseal the HPOP and fuel filter housing.

I got my injectors from DP-Tuner because you get a free tune reburn if you have their tuner. Get them from Full Force directly otherwise. Got a turbo center section rebuilt by Arundel diesel with a RiffRaff wheel. Everything else I got from Bob at Diesel O-rings.

I assume that DP outsources its injector rebuilding? Do you know RT who does them? I want to put new injectors in and I have a DP tuner as well. I was going to get them from full force and pay for a reburn after install. Thoughts?

DP just does the sale. You send your cores to Full Force Diesel and the rebuilts come directly from Full Force.

Embarrassingly enough, my Autometer oil pressure gauge started showing lower oil pressure at about 200,000 miles. I jumped the gun and swapped the pump then with that very Melling pump. Pressure came back up a bit, but not to normal. Turned out, the sending unit was bad. New sending unit and pressure restored. My fault for not testing first.

That must be a crappy sending unit. I got the same one, and it crapped out a while ago. Gauges comes to life about once a week. POS

I read the reviews on O'Reilly and everyone said the same thing - lasts about a year and goes nuts. Mine lasted about 6 years so I guess I got lucky. They're too expensive to have to replace them every year so if this one goes, I might get a mechanical gauge.

Thank you for the info RT. I plan a tune-up later this summer as the clutch and up-pipe replacement soaked a lot of my funds. I was thinking of just replacing the stock injectors in my 2002 with new Alliant injectors. I think they be new, they say they are new. I have to pass Colorado emissions standards and stock does so easily.

To be honest, if I had to do it again, I'd probably either go stock or Stage 1.5's. I'm not seeing a huge difference between my stock injectors and the Stage 1s. I've only got about 1000 miles on them, so maybe I'll get a better impression of them with time. Full Force has new stock injectors for a good price as well. They are a great company to do business with.
