Question Strange high metallic knocking sound

Hi everybody, maybe this sounds familiar to somebody. Where could this sound come from. It sounds especially strong on the passenger side.

Take your serpentine belt off and see if the noise goes away.

2003 F-250 XLT Crew Cab 7.3L, Chrome BigTex Grille Guard, Quad pillar - 3 ISSPRO gauges (trans, pyro, boost) and DP-Tuner F6; Roush fuel pressure / temperature / oil pressure gauges, Ford Severe Duty AIS, 31 row 6.0 transmission cooler, ScanGauge II, Marinco mod, Walker BTM

I wonder if clouds ever look down on us and say, "Hey, look - that one is shaped like an idiot!"

Pulleys

Possible, even on a low mileage truck like yours. There is an idler pulley that one can replace for about 20 bucks or refurbish with an new sealed bearing for 5 if you can press a bearing in an out. Entirely possible and highly likely regardless of low mileage is that the spring loaded belt tensioner is weak, a function of time tensioned more than miles, allowing the belt to misalign and squeal. Not a difficult R&R and around 100 bucks in parts.


The belt removal test RT recommended is the logical start, assuming nothing else is in contact with the belt.

Yes could be. We noticed some slight movement of a pulley and tensioner also.

Hi, were checking the pulleys and tensioner. The slight movements are not play - just normal.
Tensioner not weak.
Sound does not come from there, comes from a lower point on passenger side.
There is the belowed up pipe kit stainless steel installed. Might the sound come from there?

Might be worth picking up a cheap stethoscope and go hunting. Just don't get it caught in the fan...
