Dp Tuner..with 35's and 3.73's

Currently running a stock 2001 7.3 truck on 325/60/18s, towing 5-6k pounds regularly.

Have a DP tuner F5 on the way with 60/80 econo and 60/80 tow tunes.

Gauges are in the garage waiting to be installed with chip. 4 inch exhaust and AFE air will follow very shortly.

My question is how will the truck tow if I go to 35's? Its okay on 33's in stock form. Don't want to lose that performance with 35's. Will the tunes make up for the loss of gear ratio with the 35's? I'm not interested in regearing, would just stay with 33's if I lose too much towing power. Thanks

I believe your engine will handle it just fine- I think your issue will be the transmission - did you tell Jody what tire size / gearing combo you will be running? At least he could adjust the shift points.

Didnt talk with Jody, didn't think about it. That was not the brightest thing I've done this week. I guess if its horrible I can send the chip back to have it tweaked.

What are your thoughts on the transmission?

Make sure and upgrade to the 6.0 cooler. Probably shouldn't try towing a 5th wheel like that, but occasional 6,000 lbs. will probably be ok.

I also have a an '01...mods listed in my sig. I think you'll be fine with the smaller loads 5-6k lbs with.

I pull double that with mine and run 265/75r-16 (32") and can state....I'm wishing for 4:10's. I'd like to have about 2000rpm at 65 with the load I pull....or more power.

I went here Gear Ratio Calculator and inserted some info.

At 65mph with 35's you should have about 1670 rpms. With 32's it will be about 1820.

My 80Hp tow tune is really sweet. Jody does/did a great job on the shift points and downshift points.

'01 F250 4x4 Crew Shorty, PM Rods, new PIS 160/30's, D66 compressor by Dieselsite/w 1.00 ex housing, EBPV delete, ITP Regulated fuel return, Ford AIS.

Thanks for the info guys! I got the DP Tuner F5 chip in the truck! What an AMAZING difference! The tunes are smooth and powerful, idles smoother, shifts are firm and smooth! What an awesome updgrade! Thank you DP Tuner!
